UN Traineeship Programme initiated by UN agencies in Nepal conducted a graduation program for the 30 trainee on 1st June 2018. Organized by Real Solutions Pvt Ltd, 6th cohort of the program involving 9 different agencies, completed with 11 months full time on the job training with access to mentoring and practical experiences in the International UN working environment.
The traineeship programme demonstrate the firm commitment of UN in Nepal in the field of human resource development to Nepalese youth from socially excluded groups with objective to provide capacity building, professional training to enhance their professional competency and improve their marketability in the public, private and non-public sector.
The program launched on April 2011 have successfully trained 143 trainees in the past 5 batches. “Out of which 65.7% of trainee have gained some job experience in Government, NGO, INGO’s and private sector,” said Ms. Moon Gurung, Human Resource Analyst, UNDP.
In the statement of Ms. Valerie Julliand, Country Director of UNDP Mr. Renaud Meyer shared ‘’The most precious thing trainee can take away from the program is the values UN promotes- basic human rights, peace and prosperity and the essence of sustainable development that leaves no one behind.” “I believe mentors have also learnt and sharpen their skills and supervisory role through this intensive program,” she added.
On behalf of the trainees, Ms. Sinja Raut trainee at UNRCO added that they feel fortunate, grateful and indebted to mentors, UN agencies and Real Solutions for their insight, support and encouragement. Furthermore, she added, “it is invaluable to be trained in the UN System and it would be more fortunate if we could receive placement opportunities within UN System or its implementing partners.” Similarly Mr. Rabin Rai, trainee at UN Women Nepal shared that he has improved his skills in communication, coordination and team work. Also through the programs he is now able to adapt into multicultural and multi ethnic environment.
Sharing the glimpses of the traineeship - “Real Solutions is honoured to facilitate such traineeship programme” said Mr. Shailendra Raj Giri- Managing Director to Real Solutions. “Every Cohort give us new challenges and we get opportunity to grow and learn simultaneously,” he added revealing the trainees’ profile.
UN Traineeship Programme was designed in 2010 based on intensive consultations of all UN Agencies in Nepal. As the continuation and the successful completion of Cohort I, II, III, IV, V, UN Traineeship Programme Cohort VI was initiated in July 2017. UN Traineeship Programme 2017 involved FAO, UNCDF, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNRCO, UN Women Nepal and WHO.
