Music Nepal was established in 1982, under the Industrial Act of Nepal, as the first music industry in the country. It pioneered the concept of royalty payments to artists and creators of music by paying a fixed percentage of sales revenue of their albums. This encouraged creation and helped in the exponential growth of the industry. The growth was driven especially by the popularity of Dohori and Folk Songs of different parts of the country. Music Nepal also played a catalytic role in developing Copyright Law and over the years has joined hands with numerous stake holders to strengthen the copyright regime in the country.

Job Description

Department: Content & Artist Management (A&R)
Reports To: Deputy CEO (DCEO)

Position Purpose

The Content Head leads the complete content lifecycle at Music Nepal — from acquisition and curation to optimization, monetization, and performance analytics. This role combines creative leadership with business insight, ensuring that Music Nepal’s music catalogue remains relevant, profitable, and strategically aligned with audience preferences and evolving market trends.

Key Responsibilities

Content Acquisition & Integration

  • Develop and implement a data-driven content acquisition strategy aligned with audience insights, market needs and business goals.
  • Identify, evaluate, and finalise content partnerships, licenses, and exclusive agreements.
  • Ensure rights validation, metadata accuracy, and quality compliance before onboarding.
  • Oversee onboarding, quality checks, and discoverability across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, A&R, and Analytics teams to promote high-potential releases across all platforms.

Content Curation

  • Maintain a diverse and balanced catalogue across genres, artists, and regional markets.
  • Regularly update playlists, catalogues, and editorial features to maximise reach and engagement.
  • Use analytics to identify trends and audience preferences, guiding future curation.
  • Work with Studio and Post-Production teams on remasters, re-releases, and content refreshes.
  • Manage underperforming titles using a structured content lifecycle framework.

Content Screening & Approval

  • Oversee verification of ownership, metadata, and copyright documentation.
  • Lead the review and approval of all content submissions.
  • Evaluate content based on creativity, commercial value, and originality.
  • Maintain a standardised scoring and feedback system for content partners.

Strategic Growth

  • Collaborate with A&R, Marketing, and Distribution to drive content growth.
  • Represent Music Nepal at key industry events to identify acquisition opportunities.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and platforms.
  • Support marketing with curated content recommendations and campaign tie-ins.

Analytics & Performance

  • Define KPIs and track content performance (streams, watch time, ROI).
  • Collaborate with data teams to generate insights, forecasts, and actionable reports.
  • Recommend investment priorities based on analytics and catalogue potential
  • Present quarterly performance updates to management.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor teams across content, curation, QC, and promotion.
  • Set team KPIs, workflows, and development goals.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and data-driven innovation.

Compliance, IP & Governance

  • Ensure copyright compliance, ISRC/ISWC tagging, and royalty mapping.
  • Coordinate with Legal and Finance on rights validation and revenue reconciliation.
  • Maintain documentation for all licensing and publishing agreements.
