Job Description

Context & Role:
This position will have a direct reporting line to India CRO and dotted lines to Nepal CEO and Nepal’s Head of Ethics and Compliance. This position will be responsible for complete ownership of Operational & Financial Risk Assessment and Controls covering the risks areas of Insurance, Capital, Market, Credit, Liquidity, Business,Regulatory, Legal, Information Security, Fraud, Distribution, and Process controls. The position will also support the Nepal Ethics & Compliance officer in the full implementation and ongoing effectiveness and related documentation requirements of the MetLife Compliance Risk Management Program (CRMP).

The position is responsible for all aspects of the risk management for MetLife Nepal operation. The person will work closely with India CRO and the Nepal Ethics & Compliance officer to implement the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, CRMP and global policies, including an integrated risk management model. The person shall coordinate with other functional areas in the country to ensure all risks in the country are identified,measured, mitigated/managed, monitored and reported, and shall be a value-added business partner by pursing risk adjusted return optimization. The person shall partner with the Business to ensure that the Business Operation meets all applicable regulatory & Company requirements in relation to effective risk governance and management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Business to ensure that they comply with all regulatory requirements on governance and reporting
  • Support Risk Management Committee in carrying out its responsibilities
  • Work closely with India CRO to ensure global risk policies and operating models are appropriately localized and implemented. It includes appropriate risk limit setting and institutionalizing Risk
  • Appetite Statement for the Country.
  • Partner with Investment, Finance, Product and Regional Actuarial team to manage financial risks that cover: credit, interest rate, equity, liquidity, insurance and product risks
  • Partner with Risk and Control Functions to implement integrated operational risk management
  • framework, including regular update and track of Entity Risk Self-Assessment (ERSA) process, top risk and top emerging risk identification and mitigation, implementation of GRC, and Loss event database.
  • Assist in implementing Economic Capital (EC)* project for the Country.
  • Develop country risk reporting / dashboard; timely communicate / escalate risk events, issues, and compliance with risk policies and limits to key stakeholders in the country and in the region
  • Support the Country Ethics & Compliance officer in fully implementing and the ongoing effectiveness of the CRMP. This will include conducting monitoring and testing of controls and ensuring that the required content are documented in the Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) system including meeting enterprise requirements on its documentation.
  • Travel to Sales Offices throughout the operation to conduct onsite testing of controls as well as conduct training on Ethics & Compliance matters. Complete written reports for each Sales Office review, outlining the control weakness identified as well as the action plans agreed to by the Sales office leadership. Follow up with the Sales offices and conduct follow up testing, where required, to confirm closure of all identified issues
  • Partner with IT and other stakeholders to conduct data analytics to enable Compliance to take a risk based approach to identifying and addressing Compliance issues and issues that may impact the customer.

Desired qualifications and experience :
Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in financial service industry. Exposure in core Compliance, Fraud
  • Management, Operations and Operational Risk Management, Finance, Internal Audit is desirable.
  • Experience in one of the big 4 in risk management will be an advantage
  • Complete understanding of the Life Insurance workflow, Domain knowledge (Understanding of Operational processes, Financial concepts, and Regulatory developments)
  • Exposure and Understanding of Information Technology in Insurance is desirable.
  • Investigative bent of mind: Should have exposure to Inspections or Audit
  • Experience performing data analytics support business initiatives

Qualification:

  • CA/ICWA (Institute of Cost and Works Accountant)
  • MBA – Finance from recognised institute
  • Actuarial Student preferred, however not a limiting factor
  • Any other professional qualification in Insurance domain is desirable

  • Must be willing to travel throughout Nepal atleast 25% of the time.
