We want to hire for a Manager level position at Taragaon Next. The Manager will be responsible for implementing our vision, mission, and values while carrying out their responsibilities.

The manager will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The candidate should know about, and be an active member of, the local community, in-specific, and the art and culture community.

The vision for Taragaon Next is to be a space that showcases the development of an urban oasis for a community, where people across generations and interests can gather for dialogue, inquiry and debate, and influence and build an urban culture for future generations, which is inclusive and sustainable.

Taragaon Next is a place for local and international communities to explore Nepalese culture, learn about Kathmandu Valley’s past, and be a part of its present and future.

Position Overview:

As the Art and Programming Manager of Taragaon Next, a prominent Culture and Art Centre in Kathmandu, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of its operations, promoting artistic and cultural endeavours, and ensuring a vibrant and engaging experience for the community, visitors and participants. Your role will be critical in fostering creativity, promoting local talent, building engagement with visitors through various programming and workshops, and contributing to the Centre’s growth and reputation within the arts community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the centre's artistic and cultural goals, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for artists, performers, and visitors.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of Taragaon Next, including scheduling events, managing resources, and coordinating activities to ensure a seamless experience for visitors and participants.
  • Artistic Programming: Curate and organize a diverse range of cultural events, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and art shows, featuring local, national, and international talent.
  • Community Engagement: Establish strong relationships with local artists, cultural organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance the centre's reputation as a hub for creativity and artistic expression.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of staff and volunteers, inspiring and motivating them to deliver outstanding performances and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage the budget, identify funding opportunities, and explore revenue-generating avenues to ensure the sustainability of the centre's operations.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop effective promotional strategies, utilizing digital platforms, events, and media to increase the centre's visibility and attract a wider audience.
  • Facilities and Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and improvement of the centre's facilities, ensuring a safe and inspiring environment for artists and visitors alike.
  • Artistic Development: Identify emerging talent and foster the growth of local artists through mentorship, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs.
  • Cultural Advocacy: Promote the value of culture and arts within the community and advocate for the importance of artistic expression in society.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts, Cultural Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in arts management, cultural programming, or event management.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and mentor a team, and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various events and projects simultaneously, different teams and stakeholders.
  •  A passion for arts and culture, with a deep understanding of the local and international artistic landscape.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and grant writing is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English and Nepali, both spoken and written.

Our programming is organised into 4 verticals.

1. Vertical 1 - Art Collabs

− Collaborative exhibitions with artist from all fields
− TN and Artist collaborate and create the exhibition
             • TN will curate
             • Other forms of collabs
− These collabs are targeted to various groups from the community

2. Vertical 2 - Monthly Workshops

− Skill-building workshops and classes
− Types of workshops – pottery, ceramics, photography, knitting/ stitching/ tufting/ macrame, light and sound, social media

3. Vertical 3 - Annual Programs

− Taragaon Next – Curated annual programs – once a year
− Larger events – some examples are
             • Taragaon Lecture Series
             • Artist in Residence
             • Object in Focus

4. Vertical 4 - Community engagement

On-going engagement activities at the Taragaon Next space

ii. Guided Tours – create keeping in mind the various groups from the community
               • school students
               • university level architecture students
               • history enthusiasts
iii. Speakers Corner
iv. Interest-based Clubs – Community building, creative thinking, working with, learning from people with different backgrounds but similar interests, such as Art club, Book club, Poetry club, Gardening club
