Roles and responsibilities of this job

The Senior Accountant / Chartered Accountant (CA) is responsible for managing the company's accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, and statutory compliance. The role ensures accurate financial records, effective financial controls, and provides financial insights to support business operations and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Overall Finance and Accounting

Perform and oversee the complete accounting and finance cycle, from day-to-day accounting entries, bookkeeping, voucher preparation, and reconciliations to the finalization of accounts, preparation of financial statements, statutory compliance, budgeting, taxation, audit coordination, and financial management.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all accounting records, financial transactions, and supporting documents.

2. Financial Accounting and Reporting

Maintain complete books of accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Prepare Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and other financial reports.
Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing of accounts.
Prepare financial analyses and management reports.

3. Project Accounting and Cost Control

Maintain project-wise accounting records.
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and profitability.
Track project costs related to materials, labour, subcontractors, equipment, and overheads.
Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), retention money, mobilization advances, project billing, and revenue recognition.
Verify subcontractor bills and payment certificates.

4. Taxation and Statutory Compliance

Ensure timely filing of VAT, Income Tax, TDS, SSF, and other statutory returns.
Prepare tax computations and maintain compliance with applicable laws.
Coordinate with government authorities on taxation and regulatory matters.
Handle tax assessments, audits, notices, and correspondence.

5. Banking and Treasury Management

Manage banking transactions and relationships.
Prepare bank reconciliations and cash flow forecasts.
Handle loans, overdrafts, Letters of Credit (LC), Bank Guarantees (BG), Performance
Bonds, and Advance Payment Guarantees.
Monitor working capital and fund utilization.

6. Budgeting and Financial Planning

Prepare annual budgets and project budgets.
Monitor budget utilization and recommend cost control measures.
Assist management in financial planning and forecasting.

7. Internal Control and Audit

Develop and maintain effective internal control systems.
Coordinate statutory, internal, and tax audits.
Ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
Maintain financial records and supporting documents for audit purposes.

8. Accounts Payable and Receivable

Verify supplier invoices and payment documents.
Monitor customer collections and outstanding receivables.
Ensure timely payments to suppliers, subcontractors, and employees.
Reconcile vendor and customer accounts.

9. Inventory and Fixed Asset Management

Monitor inventory accounting and stock reconciliation.
Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
Verify material consumption and inventory movements.

Payroll and Employee Benefits

Supervise payroll processing and statutory deductions.
Ensure compliance with SSF and other employee benefit requirements.

Team Leadership

Supervise and guide finance and accounting staff.
Allocate work, monitor performance, and provide training where necessary.

General Responsibilities

Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information.
Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Labour Act,
Public Procurement requirements, and other applicable laws.
Coordinate with project teams, procurement, management, auditors, banks, and government agencies.
Perform any other finance and accounting duties assigned by management.

Qualification and Experience

Applicants must meet either of the following criteria:

Chartered Accountant (CA)

Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA/ACA/ACCA) with a valid professional certification.
Mre than 7 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, engineering, manufacturing, or project-based organizations.

Senior Accountant

Master's Degree in Business Studies (MBS) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the construction or infrastructure sector.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of Nepal Financial Reporting Standards (NFRS), accounting principles, and financial reporting.
Sound knowledge of VAT, Income Tax, TDS, Social Security Fund (SSF), and other statutory compliances.
Experience in project accounting, contract accounting, project costing, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Proficiency in accounting software such as Swastik, Tally, or ERP systems.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Fluency in English and Nepali. Knowledge of Hindi will be an added advantage.
