KOSHISH is a non-governmental self-help organization registered in District Administration Office, Kathmandu in 2008 and affiliated with Social Welfare Council. KOSHISH is a right-based organization working extensively in advocacy in and multi-disciplinary and holistic mental health and psychosocial support in Nepal. In addition, KOSHISH is also working in system strengthening and creating a model that the government and other stakeholders may able to replicate.

Experience required: A minimum 4 years of experience in carrying out advocacy initiatives at the Federal/ Provincial level with government authorities.

Minimum requirements

  • Good understanding of human rights-based approach and familiarity with core International Human Rights Treaties including the UNCRPD, CEDAW and CRC. 
  • Understanding and experience of working in disability sector (preferably in the issue of psychosocial disability).
  • Possess proven experience of project management in the field of social development.
  • Good understanding of the cultural and social context of the project location.
  • Excellent written verbal and presentation skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and in a team for attaining results.
  • Ability to use initiative, prioritize and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Flexible and able to multitask on several aspects of the projects.
  • Well-versed in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel etc.
  • Empathetic, Energetic with receptive learning attitude.


Job Description

Reports to: Project Coordinator  

The Project Officer will be overall responsible for the management of the project to mainstream mental health and psychosocial disability in government policies and plans in close coordination with the funding partner, government ,and stakeholders. The employee ensures the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of the project while achieving outputs and outcomes according to the agreed project plan considering the existing policies, strategies, and procedures of KOSHISH.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate/coordinate  and lobby with government authorities and concerned stakeholders including Members of Province Parliament for the inclusion of psychosocial disability in policy, practice and plan.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of laws, programs, policies and regulations related to disability rights and mental health at the Provincial and Local Level.
  •  Orient, capacitate and sensitize the project team, stakeholders, and community groups            (Peer Support Groups) in the rights of the person with psychosocial disability.
  • Develop advocacy letters on pertinent issues relating to psychosocial disability and cross disability and form delegations to stakeholders along with right holders.
  • Follow up with government authorities and other concerned stakeholders.
  • Organize, manage and facilitate the activities set forth by the organization and the project in the target areas within time specified.
  • Work on de-stigmatization and sensitization through media mobilization.
  • Organize events, advocacy and periodic dialogues  and make linkages to accelerate avenues and synergies in the sector of psychosocial disability.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders (Members of Province Parliament, Bureaucrats, NFDN, Persons with Disability, Journalists etc.) to highlight the issues of psychosocial disability.
  • Manage, and supervise the work project staff which includes the mentoring and coaching, facilitation/technical support  for professional/capacity development, and conducting performance reviews and address any challenges that may arise.
  • Prepare annual, semi-annual, periodic and event reports.
  • Establish/improve the proper knowledge management and documentation through research/study, documentation the success stories, best practices, innovations and learning.
