North South Collectives (NSC) is an interdisciplinary social and policy research center. The Collectives promote critical public dialogues, research fellowships for equity and social justice, and investment in the generation of scholars and filmmakers. The Collectives is evolving as a leading interdisciplinary center and a public forum committed to freedom, equity, and prosperity. The Collectives works to strengthen and expand regional and national networks of individuals and institutions to build a just and equitable society. To enable and enhance knowledge, innovation, and solutions, the Collectives grapple with the pressing issues confronting humankind today: democracy, economic order, legal regimes, cultural rights, social inequalities and power relations, migration, science and technology, public policy, and social progress. In the past, NSC organized public lecture series on various issues related to federalism, elections, history, indigeneity, and other topics. NSC has also completed research programs in coordination with different education and health institutions and is currently involved with a pilot study in ‘social science for social justice. ’NSC has also completed film workshops. NSC is announcing a vacancy for “Promoting Inclusion Through Media Fellowship in Madhesh,” funded by the USAID Civil Society and Media (CSM) Program, with The Asia Foundation as the lead implementer.

Job Description

A Project Assistant will be crucial in engaging and mobilizing community members to support and participate in the project. S/he will work closely with local communities, partner organizations, and project stakeholders to successfully implement field activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement community mobilization strategies to promote awareness and participation in the project's activities.
  • Identify and establish partnerships with community leaders, local organizations, civil society, and key stakeholders to support project goals.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to solicit feedback, address concerns, and promote collaboration.
  • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about the importance of civil society and encourage WYM involvement.
  • Regularly communicate with stakeholders and community members to foster transparency, trust, and cooperation.
  • Document best practices, success stories, and lessons learned from community engagement activities to inform future programming and replication.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and forums to promote the project and build relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Perform 20% time in the office and 80% in the field.

Qualifications:

  • Intermediate in education or relevant subject (preference will be given to a bachelor's degree in any discipline).
  • At least three years of proven experience in community mobilization, grassroots organizing, or community-based development projects, preferably in the education sector.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders and build partnerships.
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches, community organizing principles, and adult learning methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of local dynamics, customs, and traditions.
  • Proficiency in local languages spoken in the project area is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusive, gender equality, and social justice.
