Roles and responsibilities of this job
The Manager – Social & Administration will lead the group’s socio-economic, public relations, and site-level administrative strategies. Based out of the Kathmandu headquarters but requiring frequent visits to all three hydropower project sites, this role is critical for maintaining the company's social license to operate. The ideal candidate will proactively manage local expectations, mitigate social risks, and resolve community grievances before they escalate to top-level management.
Key Responsibilities
Social & Public Relations Management PR Team Leadership: Supervise, assist, and coordinate with all site-based Public Relations (PR) Associates and Public Relations Officers to ensure unified community engagement strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain proactive, transparent relationships with project-affected families (PAFs), local communities, youth clubs, and local leadership.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Plan, execute, and monitor CSR activities and community development programs (infrastructure, health, education) aligned with project milestones.
Grievance Redressal & Risk Mitigation Conflict Resolution: Act as the primary shield for top-level management by intercepting, investigating, and resolving all local complaints, disputes, and grievances at the ground level.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential social risks, strikes, or community roadblocks early, implementing strategic mitigation plans to ensure uninterrupted project construction and operation.
Government Liaison & Administration Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate with local, provincial, and federal Government agencies (e.g., Ministry of Energy, Department of Electricity Development, local municipalities, and forest offices) as required for project clearances and compliance.
Land Acquisition & Compensation: Assist administrative teams in handling complex land acquisition, crop compensation, and resettlement issues smoothly and legally.
Job Specifications & Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Sociology (or closely related social sciences).
Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in social management and administration.
Industry Expertise Mandatorily requires deep Hydropower sector experience, with a proven track record of site-based crisis management in Nepal.
Mobility Kathmandu-based with a willingness and fitness for frequent, rigorous travel to all 3 remote project sites.
Key Competencies & Skills
Crisis Management: Exceptional ability to de-escalate high-tension situations and negotiate win-win solutions with local communities and labor groups.
Cultural Sensitivity: Deep understanding of rural Nepalese dynamics, local dialects, and indigenous communities.
Communication & Liaison: Strong diplomatic communication skills in Nepali and English, with the gravitas to represent the company in front of government bureaucrats and local leaders alike.
Reporting: Ability to translate complex social dynamics on the ground into clear, analytical reports for corporate executives.
