Roles and responsibilities of this job

The Lab Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning, readiness, safety, and discipline of laboratory facilities. This role supports faculty and students by maintaining lab equipment, preparing labs for sessions, assisting during practical classes, and keeping accurate records of lab usage. The position plays a vital role in fostering hands-on learning, equipment safety, and academic discipline.

Reports To: Head of Department (Computer & Electronics

Key Responsibilities:

A. Laboratory Operations & Readiness:

Ensure labs are fully prepared, functional, and organized before each scheduled session
Install, configure, and test lab equipment, systems, and accessories as required
Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety standards in lab premises

B. Equipment Maintenance & Asset Care:

Conduct routine inspections of lab equipment, tools, and systems
Identify faults, damages, or irregularities and report them promptly to the HoD
Assist in preventive maintenance, inventory tracking, and basic troubleshooting of equipment

C. Academic Support During Lab Sessions:

Assist faculty during practical sessions, demonstrations, and experiments
Support students in understanding lab procedures, equipment handling, and safety protocols
Ensure adherence to lab rules, safety guidelines, and institutional discipline

D. Documentation & Record Keeping:

Maintain lab usage logs, equipment check-in/check-out records, and maintenance updates

E. Examination & Institutional Duties:

Support examination processes, including invigilation duties as assigned
Assist in lab setup for internal assessments, practical exams, and compliance visits

F. Reporting & Continuous Improvement:

Submit periodic updates or reports on lab status, issues, and requirements to the HoD
Contribute ideas for lab improvement, safety enhancement, and operational efficiency
Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by the HoD to support laboratory and academic functions

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Diploma Certificate

Required Experience:More than 1 year

Other Specification

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, IT, or a related technical field
Fresher can apply; 1–3 years of prior experience in a computer or electronics lab is preferred.
Practical familiarity with laboratory equipment and systems relevant to computer and electronics labs

Desirable:

Prior experience as a lab assistant or technical support staff in an academic institution
Basic knowledge of electronics components and computer systems
