GoodWeave seeks Government Relations Consultant candidates who have at least seven years of experience working in government relations, communications, social justice, anti-trafficking, child labour or a similar field. Previous experience working with or in the Government of Nepal (particularly the Ministry of Commerce or Finance or Industry) or at the intersection of export industries and government will be considered a significant advantage. Candidates must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and creative problem solving skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and in collaborationwith colleagues locally and remotely. Skilled communicators and strong networkers with the ability to build a big picture vision by drawing connections among multiple perspectives will be most competitive. The GRC must be conversant in English and have access to a computer and internet access, or must be willing to work from the Nepal GoodWeave Foundation office in Maitidevi, Kathmandu. Job Description

Project: (Re)Building Better

Reporting to: GoodWeave’s Advocacy Coordinator

GoodWeave is recruiting for a Government Relations Consultant (GRC) who will provide coordination and thought leadership by leveraging his/her networks and local knowledge to help the project achieve its advocacy goals. This is a flexible, part-time consultancy, requiring up to 25-30 hours per week.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide substantive input and guidance on the format and content of a scoping study to be carried out by a local research firm or expert;
  • Identify and meet with relevant stakeholders including government, civil society, industry and others to understand their perspectives and encourage participation in and/or support of the advocacy campaign objectives;
  • Provide editorial support for campaign message development and strategy, particularly focusing on ensuring the campaign resonates with target ministries and other stakeholders in Nepal;
  • Assist in the development of an agenda for a convening of key stakeholders to discuss and agree upon specific business incentives and advocacy strategy that would best ensure child protection within Nepalese industries, given current political climate and limitations;
  • Work with the Advocacy Consultant and administrative staff in Nepal GoodWeave Foundation to ensure logistical arrangements are made for advocacy-related events and roundtables;
  • Participate in the stakeholder convening as a facilitator and member of the GoodWeave team;
  • Provide ongoing coordination and leadership to implement the resulting advocacy strategy developed at the stakeholder convening.
