Based: Kathmandu with possible travel to field locations

Duration: 10 months with the possibility of extension subject to funding (Up to August 2019)

Job Purpose

The Stakeholder Liaison will support the delivery of these two projects by engaging with government agencies, technical experts, civil society organizations, and the media to ensure complementarity, coordination as well as efficiency and effectiveness. Using high-quality communication as the medium the post holder will identify information gaps, share information priorities, and feedback to the team on critical needs directly from those involved in the reconstruction effort.

Main Duties

Develop and maintain relationships with key government agencies, I/NGO, civil society groups, development partners, research organizations, and local contacts in affected areas to ensure that the radio content is coordinated fully
Coordinate with state broadcasters to produce and broadcast radio and TV dramas, PSAs including content for social media
Attend Communication with Communities and various working group meetings to gather information on reconstruction priorities
Ensure that the BBC Media Action team has up-to-date, relevant information on the developing reconstruction context and responses from other agencies and link Radio Producers to relevant contacts
Share relevant findings of BBC Media Action research and audience feedback with external parties.
Cultivate a network of Nepali-speaking reconstructions experts to be able to feed into radio programming content
Liaise with media partners operating throughout Nepal.
Provide communication advisory assistance to partner organizations if and when requested.
Hold stakeholder meetings, when require prepare for this
Support internal and external communication including through social media
Provide support to Senior Project Manager in ensuring that programmatic outputs are in line with BBC Media Action editorial values
Provide support to the Project Director in managing the programme production team
Other responsibilities as assigned by Senior Project Manager

Essential skills and experience

Substantial experience of managing relationships and coordinating with reconstruction organisations, government representatives, civil society groups, and/or media partners
Experience of working in multicultural professional environments
Adaptable to changing circumstances and organisational needs
High analytical skills and ability to represent the views and values of BBC Media Action
Fluency in written and spoken English

Desirable skills and experience

Experience working on communications in disaster-response, feeding up-to-date information from the ground into response programming
Experience managing relationships with aid agencies, government bodies, media and other relevant stakeholders

Working with media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. BBC Media Action reaches some 200 million people through local broadcast partners, BBC channels (especially the BBC World Service), online, mobile and print platforms and through interpersonal communication. We are currently delivering projects in 28 countries, including in Nepal.

BBC Media Action has been working on communication for development projects in Nepal since 2007, giving us a well-developed understanding of Nepali audiences and significant experience of producing and evaluating media content on a range of issues to diverse target audiences. Our work in Nepal currently focuses on governance, health, resilience and humanitarian preparedness and response with strong gender commitments and focus.

Since the earthquake on 25 April 2015, we have been implementing a programme focused on reconstruction, building upon our lifeline work. In addition, we have also started a new project titled “Retrofitting of Unsafe Housing”. The objective of this project is to create demand through increased motivation and efficacy to build earthquake-resilient housing using retrofitting techniques.
