|BBC Media Action uses media and communication to reach millions of people through creative communication and trusted media, helping people have their say, understand their rights, responsibilities and each other, and take action to transform their own lives. We work across a range of thematic areas including health, governance and rights, resilience and humanitarian response and we partner with civil society, local media and governments to deliver our work. We have been working in Nepal since 2007 addressing a range of development issues including climate change adaptation, governance, health and humanitarian response.
BBC Media Action is implementing a three-year long (April 2024 to March 2027) project titled, ‘Building climate resilience through strengthened communication across the WCIS system (Bridges)’. The project is being implemented across the three countries – Bangladesh, Nepal and Kenya - which are particularly vulnerable to the impact of extreme weather events.
The project is responding to the urgent need to improve communication, understanding and trust among all key stakeholders in the Weather & Climate Information Services (WCIS) communication pathway from observation through forecasting (weather, hazard and impact), to early warning systems and ultimately decision-making by end users about appropriate action to take. It aims to improve the accessibility, timeliness, relevance, usefulness of, and trust, in WCIS, especially for “last mile” users. The major stakeholders include government meteorological and disaster risk management authorities, technical sector specialists (in fields including agriculture and health), media practitioners, outreach services and communities themselves.
