Department: Investment Department

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Automobiles Investment Officer to join our Investment Department. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in automobile financing, credit underwriting, and portfolio management, with a proven ability to develop strategic partnerships and manage subvention programs. This role requires excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, along with the ability to work under pressure and drive investment growth in the automobile sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership Development and Management:

Identify, negotiate, and establish strategic partnerships with automobile manufacturers, importers, dealers, and recondition houses under subvention modalities, including interest rate subsidies, buyback schemes, and promotional financing programs to enhance sales and portfolio growth.
Collaborate with partners to design customized hire purchase financing structures for vehicles, ensuring alignment with market trends, customer affordability, and company profitability goals.
Monitor partnership performance, resolve disputes, and conduct periodic reviews to optimize subvention agreements and expand investment opportunities in the automobile sector.

Underwriting and Credit Risk Assessment:

Perform detailed underwriting for automobile hire purchase applications, including evaluation of customer creditworthiness, vehicle valuation, and collateral assessment in compliance with the company’s policy and NRB guidelines.
Conduct comprehensive credit risk assessments, analyzing factors such as applicant income stability, debt-to-income ratios, credit history, and market risks like vehicle depreciation and resale value.
Develop and implement risk-based pricing models for automobile financing, categorizing applications as low, medium, or high risk, and recommend approval, rejection, or conditional terms.
Integrate internal controls for fraud detection in underwriting processes, such as verifying vehicle documents (e.g., blue book, import papers, ownership) and conducting site visits.

Portfolio Management and Operations:

Oversee the end-to-end process of automobile investment operations, asset repossession in case of defaults, and portfolio diversification.
Conduct regular portfolio reviews and stress testing to identify emerging risks in the automobile sector, and propose mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with sales, operations, and legal teams to streamline customer onboarding, integration of subvention benefits, and manage post-disbursement activities like insurance and vehicle registration.

Recovery and Collections:

Oversee and coordinate collection activities for overdue installments on financed vehicles, including issuing reminders, in collaboration with recovery teams and strategic partners.
Manage the recovery process for defaulted loan accounts, including vehicle repossession in accordance with applicable guidelines, coordinating with strategic partners for logistical support, buyback options under subvention agreements, or resale facilitation.
Liaise with legal teams, consultants, enforcement agencies, and partners to ensure smooth and cost-effective repossession, auction, or resale of recovered vehicles while minimizing losses and maintaining compliance with recovery procedures.
Track and report on recovery rates, collection efficiency, and non-performing assets (NPAs) specific to the automobile portfolio, proposing strategies to improve recovery outcomes through partner incentives or revised terms.

Reporting and Monitoring:

Prepare and submit periodic reports on automobile investment performance to senior management, including portfolio metrics, default rates, and compliance with financing thresholds.
Monitor daily transactions and red flags in automobile financing (e.g., unusual payment patterns or concentrated exposures to specific vehicle models), using tools for ongoing risk tracking and reporting.
Maintain an updated investment register and risk dashboard for the automobile portfolio, tracking key indicators like return on investment (ROI) and non-performing assets (NPAs).

Education:

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years in investment, credit underwriting, or portfolio management roles within a financial institution, preferably in hire purchase, or automobile financing.
Prior experience in managing subvention partnerships and handling credit assessments for asset-based financing shall have added advantage.

Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of Nepalese financial regulations, including NRB's Directives on Hire Purchase, Credit Risk Management and Asset Financing Policies.
Familiarity with automobile market dynamics, and subvention models.

Skills:

Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in MS Office and credit assessment tools
Excellent communication skills in English and Nepali
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
