The Vertical Biodiversity Fund (VBF) is a non-profit company (a hybrid entity) based in the Eastern Region of Nepal registered in 2017. We are working with farmers, youth, and local communities across a vertical gradient from Koshi Tappu to Kanchenjunga to protect the natural environment and to support farmers to grow organic and nutritious fruits and vegetables. In collaboration with KTK-BELT, the goal of the VBF is to become the Nepali operational entity to run the “Vertical University project” in collaboration with other local partners and stakeholders.

About the Vertical Farm:

The Vertical Farm is a brand for organic agro-products launched by the Vertical Biodiversity Fund (VBF), a registered local non-profit company based in the Eastern Region of Nepal. We are working with farmers, youth, and local communities across a vertical gradient to grow organic and nutritious fruits and vegetables. Our farms also operate as demonstration hubs or resource centers for sustainability, engaging local farmers. 

Position Description:

The consultant will need to sell production at local weekend farmers’ markets in Kathmandu, develop a buyer roster, communicate with the buyers regarding weekly produce, develop price lists, and organize the logistics of home delivery, working in concert with the field team in Dharan.  Ethnic minorities, women, and young professionals encouraged to apply

Scope of work:

  • Sell produce at farmer’s market
  • Develop a large roster of buyers  
  • Work out logistics of home delivery and transport issues in Kathmandu 
  • Receive and properly store production from the field
  • Build business relationships with restaurants and hotels in Kathmandu  
  • Coordinate with eastern region office to ensure timely delivery and accuracy of produce type and amounts
  • On the supply side, create a seasonable calendar of production. Continuously update and refine this calendar based on ground issues
  • Respond to customer needs and complaints in a timely fashion
  • Market organic production and articulate the social and environmental value of the produce
  • Cultivate supply relationships with chefs of five star hotels and restaurants in Kathmandu 
  • Manage social media page and communication with buyers
  • Provide continuous feedback to farm coordinators and to VBF leadership about market needs and customer preferences 

To achieve the given objectives, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Bachelors graduate is a must but masters preferred
  • 4-5 years’ directly related work experience in sales/marketing or related field is a must
  • Fluency in English and Nepali a must
  • Computer Literacy a must (Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT, Email and Social Media)
  • Excellent presentation and speaking skills 
  • Punctual, detail oriented, and highly professional
  • Energetic, go-getter attitude
  • Highest degree of ethics and integrity
  • Team player and problem solver who can recognize inefficiencies and improve systems
  • Willing to learn and improve, responds well to constructive feedback, eager to deliver results
  • Skilled at making business plans and devising revenue projections desired
  • Previous experience in sales and marketing
  • Experience in cargo, home delivery and transport logistics a plus
  • Strong customer service and presentation skills
