USAID’s Strengthening Systems for Better Health (SSBH) Activity is a 6-year project aimed at improving health outcomes in Nepal, particularly for the most marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the country. SSBH supports the Government of Nepal’s efforts to expand access to and use of quality maternal, newborn and child health and family planning services, with a specific focus on newborn care and is designed to achieve three major outcomes:

(i) improving access to and utilization of equitable healthcare services,
(ii) improving the quality of 
health services at facility and community levels and
(iii) improving health systems governance, within the context 
of federalism.

The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population at federal level and with provincial and municipal governments, health facilities and other key health sector stakeholders at sub-national levels.

Background 

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Strengthening Systems for Better Health Activity is looking for “Consultant, Data Collection, Data Entry, Data Transcription and Translation” for the “Assessment of Neonatal and child Health Referrals from Private Points of Care in Karnali Province”. This assessment aims to better understand neonatal and under-five children caregiver health seeking decision making, private health sector referral practices and patient experiences, and (to a certain extent) care outcomes. This will assist, in particular with, improving streamlined private patient handling and referral procedures, as well as clarifying other patient-side barriers to neonatal and under-five children care in seeking care within a joint private-public care environment. 

We are looking for qualified individuals, to translate transcribed data from Nepali to English  

Number of Individuals Required: 2

Number of Days: Up to 20 days (based on actual number of days)  

Duty Station: Kathmandu 

Period of Performance: November 15, 2021 through December 30, 2021 

Key Tasks: 

  • Translation of transcribed data (interviews) from Nepali to English language.
  • Coordinate with the enumerators in case of further clarity required in transcriptions of the interviews.

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills Required:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree 
  • Proven experience in translating qualitative research transcriptions (in-depth interviews)  
  • Excellent English writing skill and understanding of Nepali Language.
  • Good understanding of socio-cultural, economic and gender barriers to seeking and receiving health care, with focus on maternal, newborn, child health and family planning services 
  • Willingness and ability to work in time pressure.
