Job Description

Training and Outreach Coordinator for the Nepal Monitor Project with Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) in Kathmandu, Nepal (with frequent field visits) 
NepalMonitor.org is a COCAP protection and conflict prevention initiative, supported by PBI. Originally developed by PBI, it is an innovative tool for the protection of HRDs at risk. Using latest ICT-tools, NepalMonitor.org alerts local organisations in Nepal to human rights and security incidents in their area and allows anyone to easily share incidents with local, national and international organisations. Contributors and users create a community and engage in cooperative action to protect themselves from human rights abuses and other security threats.

The Nepal Monitor Project is recruiting a Training and Outreach Coordinator to manage its outreach program for NepalMonitor.org and conduct training on security for Human Rights Defenders in the field. 

Tasks

Manage outreach for the NepalMonitor.org system, conduct trainings for HRDs, follow-up on protection cases and support the Nepal Monitor Project in creating a community that effectively engages in joint activities to protect and promote human rights crossing societal divisions.

  • Coordinate NepalMonitor.org outreach activities in cooperation with the Nepal Monitor Project Coordinator
  • Conduct trainings on how to use the NepalMonitor.org system and security for HRDs in the field in districts and manage its preparation and logistics
  • Follow-up on protection cases reported to NepalMonitor.org
  • Manage communication and relationships with HRDs and journalists in the field
  • Liaise with relevant government authorities in the field
  • Develop, set-up and facilitate/accompany a peer learning approach for Women Human Rights Defenders
  • Assist in development of schedule, manuals and dissemination material for training on HRD related topics 
  • Assist in development of public relations material
  • Assist further conceptual development of the project
  • Extensive travels throughout the country, including remote areas, to strengthen the Nepal Monitor network, with and without Project Coordinator (approximately 1/3 of the working time will be in the field)
  • The Training and Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Human Rights Mapping Coordinator and the Project Coordinator in all areas of work

Your profile

  • You have a masters degree or comparable in social sciences, human rights law, adult education or other relevant fields and at least 4 years of work experience in relevant field(s), this includes experience with field trips within Nepal
  • You are interested in protection and security management, especially related to HRDs
  • You are interested in the usage of ICT tools
  • You have experience in conducting training
  • You have knowledge of the human rights situation in Nepal, and can effectively conduct spoken and written human rights discourse using both English and Nepali terminology
  • You have very good English and Nepali skills in speaking, reading and writing
  • You are proficient in entry of Unicode and/or Preeti Nepali text 
  • You are willing and able to abide by strict security protocols, including the use of security software, and will respect the confidentiality of PBI, COCAP, and all of their contacts
  • You are willing to work in a complex political and sociocultural environment and are open and able to do extensive trips, including remote areas
  • You have strong interpersonal communication skills and enjoy to work as part of a team
  • You are citizen of Nepal

Duration

Initial contract with a three-month probation period will be until Dec. 2017 - extension intended, depending on an agreement for the 2nd phase of the project.

Starting as soon as possible in April 2017

Remuneration will be 48,989.00 N Rs per month with additional yearly increments and bonuses.
