Job Description

Organization: Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB)
Location: Seven provinces in Nepal (specific districts listed below)

Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) in partnership with BBC Media Action is going to implement a project titled “BRIDGES” so that Nepalese people take positive actions to adapt to climate change and build resilience to climate-related natural hazards as a result of improved weather and climate information services (WCIS). With the evolving media landscape, ACORAB intends to enhance capacity of 13 community radio stations and Community Information Network (CIN) for the integration of multimedia and digital platforms, complementing traditional radio broadcasts to ensure WCIS messages reach a broader audience.

Why Join ACORAB?
Are you an innovative thinker with a passion for media, technology, and climate resilience? ACORAB invites dynamic and forward-thinking mentors to join our team for the project. Your expertise will help shape the future of community radio, ensuring it remains a vital resource for local voices. As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise in digital technologies, media innovation, and climate communication to harness the power of new technologies, introduce digital tools, engage with diverse communities, and build climate resilience by delivering timely and actionable weather information.

Location: The position will be based in seven provinces, with one mentor selected from each of the following districts. Regular travel to Kathmandu will be required:

  • Koshi Province (Illam and Jhapa)
  • Madhesh Province (Dhanusha and Mahottari)
  • Bagmati Province (Kathmandu and Sindhupalchowk)
  • Gandaki Province (Baglung and Myagdi)
  • Lumbini Province (Banke and Bardiya)
  • Karnali Province (Surkhet and Dailekh)
  • Sudurpaschim Province (Kailali and Kanchanpur)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of coordinating efforts with local community radio partners to create compelling radio and digital media content focused on climate issues. This includes setting clear objectives, timelines, and creative guidelines to ensure that the content resonates with the target audience.
  • Create and implement comprehensive training programmes for local radio partners that emphasize audience-driven programming and innovative digital content creation.
  • Offer customized mentorship to community radio journalists to help them effectively integrate multimedia tools and digital platforms into their work. This mentorship will focus on enhancing the quality of their content and increasing audience engagement through innovative storytelling techniques.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the project team by providing updates on mentoring activities and production progress. This includes tracking milestones, documenting achievements, and identifying any areas needing additional support.
  • Conduct training sessions for radio station journalists and technicians on essential skills such as video editing, using emerging technologies, and applying AI tools in their content creation processes. This capacity-building initiative aims to modernize their skills and improve the overall quality of their broadcasts.
  • Facilitate a culture of active community engagement among journalists by encouraging feedback and establishing two-way communication channels. This approach ensures that the media reflects community needs and concerns while fostering trust and transparency.
  • Support local radio stations in forming partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to enhance climate communication and address public service topics.
  • Regularly review and assess the progress of radio stations in adopting digital tools and improving content production. This includes follow-up visits, feedback sessions, and progress reports to ensure they are on track with their goals.
  • Prepare and share comprehensive reports on mentoring initiatives, highlighting success stories, identifying challenges faced, and offering recommendations for improvement. These reports will be vital for assessing the effectiveness of the mentoring program.
