UNIT/OFFICE: Program for Immunization Preventable Disease
The incumbent will work Under the direct supervision of the Surveillance Coordinator and overall supervision of National Coordinator, the incumbent performs following duties:
1. Provide training, technical and logistic assistance to government counterparts as needed to promote polio eradication and other Vaccine Preventable Diseases surveillance (VPD) activities within designated area, in accordance with guidelines and procedures provided by the WHO, Ministry of Health & Population and Department of Health Services (DHS). Technical assistance is provided in the following areas:

Carry out epidemiological surveillance of AFP and other EPI target diseases as required, in collaboration with the Regional Health Directorate, District Public Health Office, health facilities and other related organizations. This includes immediate investigation of VPD cases, regular active surveillance at designated health facilities in the reporting network, and careful collection & review of “zero reports” from designated facilities in the surveillance network
3. Plan, organize, and conduct orientations/meetings with government officials, professional organizations, health staff, health volunteers, local leaders, medical colleges, non-government organizations and others to promote understanding of, support for, participation in, and effective implementation of activities related to VPD surveillance and immunization.
4. Maintain up-to-date VPD surveillance data and laboratory results for area of responsibility and submit to the IPD Surveillance Unit and Regional Health Directorate Office as per program guidelines. Analyze and interpret case data for follow up actions, and keep Surveillance Coordinator informed. Prepare spot maps and present VPD case data as required.
5. Develop and maintain close working relationships with District Health Officer/Public Health Officer and the Regional Health Director in designated area, as well as with other individuals and organizations related to VPD surveillance and immunization.
6. Work with counterparts across international borders as required for coordinated activities to achieve polio eradication, e.g. in planning and implementing SIAs, cross-border notification, investigation, and follow-up of AFP cases, etc.
7. Provide technical assistance to monitor and strengthen routine immunization including review and evaluation of micro-planning, cold chain, fixed and outreach sessions, and coverage.
8. Submit reports of activities, maintain cashbook expenditures, and perform other administrative duties according to established WHO guidelines.
9. Provide supervision to Administrative and Finance Clerk and driver.
10. Additional tasks as assigned by National Coordinator/MO-EPI/WR
Salary: In accordance with UN Scales.
