Job Description

Project: (Re)Building Better
Location: Kathmandu
Duration: Oct/Nov 2016-Jan 2017
Reporting to: GoodWeave’s Advocacy Coordinator

GoodWeave seeks to commission a stakeholder analysis and scoping study that will serve as the foundational strategy document to guide advocacy under the “(Re)Building Better” project. The analysis report will provide a political economy mapping that will result in a roadmap for action, as well as a convening tool to catalyse productive dialogue among stakeholders to identify compelling and realistic policy incentives for businesses with child-labour-free production.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify the key issues, leading players (government, industry, international agencies, civil society groups) and their self-interests that will impact the campaign (positively or negatively);
  • Identify relevant political processes/levers of power required to create change, as well as important timing considerations based on Nepal’s political and budget cycle keeping in mind the overall project timeline;
  • Flag potential “bright lines” among key players that could derail negotiations, including factors in the broader political environment and agenda;
  • Work closely with GoodWeave’s Government Relations Consultant and Advocacy Consultant to ensure collaborative engagement and buy-in from key government stakeholders throughout the research phase.
  • Leveraging GoodWeave’s robust network within the carpet industry and associated stakeholders, this study will focus on carpets but will also aim to speak to a broader range of products (including other textiles and handmade bricks). Through a round of preliminary meetings, GoodWeave has gathered initial background information that will be provided to the researcher(s), and GoodWeave’s extensive connections in the carpet industry and in relevant ministries will be at the disposal of the researcher(s) to facilitate an accelerated start up.

Deliverables

GoodWeave seeks a written report in English (in Microsoft Word format), no more than 20 pages in length. GoodWeave expects to work collaboratively with the researcher(s) to develop a report outline, and will provide substantive feedback to be incorporated into at least one draft prior to the final report submission.
