Roles and responsibilities of this job

Location: BBDMP Project, Surkhet

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Surveyor to lead and manage surveying works for hydropower projects. The candidate will be responsible for accurate surveying, setting out, alignment control, quantity verification, and coordination with construction and project teams to ensure works are executed as per approved drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and reference pillars
Carry out setting out and alignment for headworks, canal/tunnel, penstock, powerhouse, and switchyard
Ensure accuracy and verification of all survey data before construction execution
Prepare survey drawings, cross-sections, profiles, and as-built surveys
Coordinate survey activities with site engineers, construction teams, and consultants
Supervise junior surveyors and survey helpers
Maintain survey records, field books, and data backups
Ensure compliance with survey standards, QA/QC requirements, and site safety practices

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 3 years

Other Specification

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying / Civil Engineering / Geomatics or equivalent.
Valid professional training in modern surveying instruments is preferred.
Minimum 3-5 years of total surveying experience.
At least 5 years of experience in hydropower projects, especially:

Headworks (weir, intake, desander, spillway)
Headrace tunnel / canal
Penstock alignment
Powerhouse and switchyard
Experience in mountainous and riverine terrain is mandatory.

Technical Skills & Responsibilities

1. Proficient in:

Total Station
Auto Level
GPS / DGPS

2. Responsible for:

Control point establishment and verification
Benchmarks (BM) and reference pillar management
Alignment fixing (canal, penstock)
Setting out of structures and levels
Quantity survey support and as-built survey
Capable of checking survey data and ensuring accuracy.

Software Skills

Working knowledge of:
AutoCAD (mandatory)
Civil 3D (preferred)
MS Excel for survey data processing

1. Ability to prepare:

Survey drawings
Cross-sections, longitudinal profiles
As-built drawings

Management & Coordination Skills

Ability to lead and manage junior surveyors and helpers.

1. Strong coordination with:

Site engineers
Construction team
Consultant and client representatives

Capable of planning daily and long-term survey activities as per the construction schedule.

Quality, Safety & Documentation

1. Good understanding of:

Survey accuracy standards
QA/QC requirements in hydropower projects

2. Responsible for:

Survey records, field books, and data backup
Awareness of site safety practices in difficult terrain.

Personal Attributes

Physically fit for rugged and remote project locations.
Willingness to work under pressure and tight schedules.
Honest, disciplined, and detail-oriented.
Strong problem-solving skills.

Language & Communication

Ability to communicate effectively with site staff.
Knowledge of Nepali is mandatory; basic English reading/writing is preferred.
