Roles and responsibilities of this job

A reputed College is seeking a dedicated and responsible Science Lab Assistant (Chemistry/Biology) to support the effective operation of the science laboratories. The successful candidate will assist faculty members in preparing laboratory sessions, maintaining laboratory equipment and chemicals, ensuring laboratory safety, and providing technical assistance during practical classes and examinations.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare laboratories for Chemistry and Biology practical classes by arranging chemicals, specimens, laboratory equipment, glassware, microscopes, and other materials.
Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, demonstrations, and laboratory examinations.
Maintain laboratory equipment, chemicals, biological specimens, microscopes, and laboratory instruments in good working condition.
Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety of the Chemistry and Biology laboratories.
Handle, label, store, and dispose of chemicals and biological materials in accordance with laboratory safety procedures.
Maintain inventory records of laboratory chemicals, specimens, equipment, and consumables, and report shortages when necessary.
Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards.
Assist in setting up laboratories for practical examinations, science exhibitions, and other academic activities.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or College Administration.

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Higher Secondary (+2/A Levels/IB)

Required Experience:More than 1 year

Other Specification

Minimum +2 (Science) or equivalent qualification.
Prior experience in a Chemistry or Biology laboratory will be an added advantage.
Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, chemicals, biological specimens, and laboratory safety procedures.
Good organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Honest, responsible, disciplined, and willing to learn.
