Research Data Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Data Manager to support our NIHR- funded project focused on preventing childhood blindness through innovative health system interventions. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing, coordinating, and ensuring the integrity of research data across five studies or work packages.

Main Responsibilities

Overview

  • Develop and implement comprehensive data management strategies for all five work packages
  • Design and maintain robust data collection, storage, and management systems
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with NIHR and institutional research standards
  •  Develop and maintain detailed data documentation
  • Manage data security, confidentiality, and ethical considerations

Specific Roles

  • Create and maintain electronic databases and ensure data is handled appropriately. 
  • Receiving data queries and working with stakeholders to respond and clarify this over a defined period. 
  • Perform regular, systematic checks to validate and verify information on the databases in order to produce a clean, accurate and complete set for analysis.
  • Transcribe and export data where needed and in line with the study protocols
  • Regularly assess data collection standards to ensure it is conducted according to specific research protocols.
  • Make regular judgements as to whether data is accurate and complete, and take appropriate action when incomplete data is identified
  • Draft SOPs and guidance documents to direct team practice
  • Liaise with study leads for specific study protocols and procedures, creating databases for identification, tracking, recording and reporting of clinical trial data
  • Assist research team to ensure protocols are followed.

Specific Work Package Support

1. Study 1 Health System Readiness

  • Coordinate data collection tools for assessing primary level eye health service readiness
  • Integrate data collection tools into electronic data collection systems
  • Input and support data collection and data analysis

2. Study 2 Cluster Randomized Trial

  • Integrate field data into electronic data capture systems
  • Manage trial data integrity and cleaning processes
  • Support statistical analysis preparation

3. Study 3 Process Evaluation

  • Support data collection frameworks and qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments

4. Study 4 Cost and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis

  • Support economic data collection and management
  • Develop standardized cost capture mechanisms
  • Assist in preparing economic analysis datasets

5. Study 5 Policy Analysis

  • Assist in synthesizing policy-related research data

Reporting and Collaboration

  • Prepare weekly and monthly data management reports as appropriate for project leadership
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research team members
  • Support grant reporting requirements
  • Contribute to manuscript and research output preparation
  • Participate in project meetings and research dissemination activities

Qualifications

Required

  • Higher education in quantitative based Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in research data management
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems
  • Strong understanding of research data management principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Advanced training in health research methodology
  • Previous knowledge or experience in global health or child health research
  • Experience with mixed-methods research designs
  • Familiarity with NIHR research protocols

Technical Skills

Proficiency in:

  • REDCap and other databases
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Data visualization tools
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software
