Common Platform for Common Goal (CoCoN) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered in the District Administration Office, Kathmandu in 2011 AD and is working continuously for the promotion and protection of human rights, peace and social justice through awareness, advocacy, capacity building and strengthening networks to boost up culture of peace in the society. It further focuses on the issues of woman and child rights and follows Human Rights Based Approach as well as Do No Harm principal. In addition, conflict sensitivity, gender sensitivity and good governance are its core prioritized issues.

Since the early stage of its establishment CoCoN is also working in the field of anti-human trafficking and reconnecting the trafficked children with their families through coordination and collaboration with GOs, I/NGOs, HPs and DPs.

CoCoN is operating its projects, programs and campaigns from its Head Office in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu; Regional Office in Biratnagar, Morang and Branch Office in Inaruwa, Sunsari.

Job Description

Duty Station: Kathmandu (with frequent travel to the field)
Term: 1 Year (probability of extension upon the availability of fund)
Probation Period: 3 month
Gross Salary: NPR 24000 + other benefits.

Purpose:
The Reintegration Officer, under the direct supervision of Program Coordinator, implements reintegration component (Reintegration Project) under the current project and supports the team in managing, implementing and monitoring the project activities in order to develop and forward efficient strategies towards the goal of reintegrating the trafficked and displaced children with their families, within their communities when circumstance permits it. Currently, CoCoN, in partnership of Next Generation Nepal (NGN) is implementing a project entitled "Ending the Trafficking of Children into Institutions in Nepal Phase II" and this position is for the same project.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Research families of the children in the concerned district and conduct interviews with identified families, children and actors
  • Assessment of the situation of the community including but not limited to, school, health post, transportation, food etc. and situation of the concerned family, i.e. incomes, expenditure, safety, health, security, resources etc.
  • Provide recommendations for reintegration for each concerned child
  • Reunify children with their families of origin, or when not possible within their communities through kinship, foster family or any other suitable alternative options
  • Monitor reunited children to ensure his/her safety and long-term care, and adjustment within his/her community
  • Manage all the family support provided to those families and develop appropriate procedures to provide family support in need
  • Prepare provisional budget and action plans as per operational procedures
  • Represent CoCoN in all required meetings and training
  • Prepare a monthly report summarizing all the activity
  • Maintain and update on the computer as required all information on children's profile, family visits and assessment completed (Document with photographs of all families, children and community in the database)
  • Ensure that the legal requirements to reunify concerned children are met
  • Liaise with concerned stakeholders, i.e. Government Official, Local Representatives, I/NGOs, HPs, DPs and existing support networks
  • Monitor the sustainability of all the activities and the security of each child involved in the project
  • Hire, manage, and supervise support staff needed and ensure security while in the field

Working Days / Hours:

The post holder is required to work for 42 hours per week (8.5 hours per day starting from 0900 hrs. to 1730 hrs. including half hour lunch break) on a regular basis during his/her Office stay and s/he will be required to work 70 % his/her working hours in the fields which could be mostly remote areas of Nepal. The nature of the work may require additional time and effort, and s/he may be requested for the same.

 

Competencies:

  • Computer literacy with updated knowledge on MS office package
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of working experience in the field of human rights with a prime focus on reintegration or/and child rights and child protection issues
  • At least Bachelor Degree in Social Science or equivalent degree from a reputed university
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with good command of English and Nepali languages
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team
  • Capable to carry out field visits alone even in the remote part of the country
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-tasking under adverse circumstances
