Location: Biratnagar (Habitat Field Office – East)

Reports to: Program Manager

Field Visits: Frequent travel to project areas

Core Function: This position is responsible to deliver as an overall subject matter expert in construction research, implementation, and training. He/she ensures that Habitat Nepal's construction activities are delivered according to Habitat Housing Quality Standards and the Nepal Government codes and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for monitoring and construction supervision of Housing Projects implemented through partners
  • Involves in construction research and development of appropriate technologies, and leads construction-related training
  • Ensures that Habitat Nepal construction designs meet Habitat for Humanity Housing Quality Standards and/or appropriate government building codes and regulations.
  • Ensures construction research, preparation of BOQs, construction/maintenance manuals
  • Develop guidelines on selection and quality of materials
  • Evaluate the quality of materials from local vendors and select the optimum ones
  • Provides support for training design, proposal writing, and research
  • Responsible for delivering or support to quality construction-related training as per DUDBC curriculum or any other curriculum as per Habitat Nepal request
  • Ensure that partners (engineers, site supervisors, and other staff) fulfill their duty following their responsibilities and feed into the real-time database. 
  • Work in close coordination with the Habitat Nepal GIS/Database expert to maintain an updated database
  • Ensure timely reporting by providing the necessary information in a timely manner to the project manager/coordinator/supervisor
  • Undertake weekly/monthly/quarterly or as per need monitoring visits to the designated implementation areas to support the partner with implementation aspects of the project and/or monitoring visits as per program E plan
  • Provides subject matter expert (SME) support for GV build implementation, and works in close coordination with the Program Manager, GV Engineer, and other GV staff
  • Provides supervision and oversight to partner staff, including performance, planning, goal setting, monitoring, feedback, evaluation, and development
  • Liaison with all related stakeholders on district, municipality, and community level to support the project implementation
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Results-driven with good interpersonal skills, both speaking and writing skills in English and Nepali Language.
  • Able to work effectively in cross-cultural settings; can support, negotiate, and cooperate with those of other cultures.
  • Proven ability to proactively manage workloads and multiple priorities efficiently and with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Proficient in basic computer software’s including engineering (AutoCAD and SAP) and basic GIS tools.

Education Qualification and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in re-construction, including significant on-site or field experience.
  • Monitoring and supervisory experience preferred.
