Our mission is to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment and palliative care for children in low and middle income countries, tackling the global inequality in the treatment of childhood cancer. We do this by establishing twinning partnerships linking hospitals in the developing world with hospitals in the developed world to provide a two-way transfer of expertise and skills to create locally appropriate solutions to the problem of childhood cancer in each country. Job Description

Travel Required: Travel will be required at times

Reporting to and Line Management: Asia Programmes Manager, UK

Position Overview: Oversee the delivery of WCC’s projects in Nepal, overseeing the implementation of a 3-year project funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).  Ensure the financial accountability of funds, reporting to WCC on a quarterly basis. Build the organisation’s profile in the country and support the UK’s fundraising department.  

Role Description: 

  • Responsible for overseeing the delivery of WCC’s programmes in Nepal, including a 3-year DFID funded programme 
  • Develop in collaboration with WCC monthly and quarterly work plans and budget forecasts 
  • Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of work plans and budgets, communicating any significant delays 
  • Assist in the development of strategies to achieve project aims 
  • Compile quarterly narrative reports
  • Communicate progress with healthcare professionals and administrative staff within the project  
  • Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills 
  • Support WCC’s local and international partners, building strong working relationships to deliver shared goals and objectives 
  • Organise national & community-based awareness-raising events

Financial Management: 

  • Compile quarter financial reports 
  • Report all expenditure to WCC, communicating any significant budget variation (overspend or underspent)  
  • Guarantee WCC’s financial procedures (as per Finance Manual) are correctly followed 

Monitoring and Evaluation: 

  • Maintain and develop an accurate schedule of activities 
  • Assist WCC to develop a monitoring plan and ensuring its implementation, giving regular updates 
  • Assist in the organisation of WCC’s monitoring and evaluation visits  

Fundraising and communication: 

  • Identify and develop partnerships with local supporters  
  • Collaborate with local fundraising groups to gain support for Kanti Children’s Hospital 
  • Maintain and develop databases of contacts and donors 
  • Support the WCC UK head office fundraising strategy and development of applications  
  • Assist the WCC head office with communication materials for use on the website and social media   

Coordination and Logistics: 

  • Coordinate and manage WCC’s activities in Nepal 
  • Facilitate Project Committee meetings on a quarterly basis 
  • Organise workshop logistics for medical and nursing staff
  • Organise local and International training events including booking flights, accommodation and visas 
  • Advocate with government departments, including the Ministry of Health to gain support and increase awareness of childhood cancer 

Required experience: 

  • Post-graduate degree in a health-related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role 
  • Substantial experience in project management including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and narrative and financial reporting.  
  • Practical experience in designing and implementing child health programmes, including experience of working with international, national and local partner organisations
  • Strong financial background including experience managing and tracking project budgets 
  • Good written and spoken English 
  • Enjoys working in small yet growing teams where there is the opportunity for growth
