Women Act is a national level non-governmental organization (NGO) working to address gender inequality and for the empowerment of women and girls. We focus our efforts on promoting the social, educational, economical, and political development of Nepalese women, including advocating for women’s rights, eliminating discrimination against women including GBV, advancing women’s capacities and leadership skills, and amplifying their voices for peace and development at the national level.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of the Executive President, Program Officer-GESI and Advocacy is responsible for ensuring GESI sensitive programming and, wherever possible, promoting and advocating for gender equality as a key aim of Women Act. She will act as a focal point for knowledge and support on incorporating GESI sensitive and transformative programming within the projects and campaigns. She will champion quality design, implementation and evaluation of programs to ensure the unique needs of women, girls and minority groups are identified and responded by our programs and campaigns, and that inequality is challenged wherever possible.

GESI Sensitive Programming:

  • Assist management team in the design and planning of programs to ensure a strong GESI-sensitive approach is integrated into all assessments, activities and outcomes
  • Adopt and test new approaches and strategies of women and girls empowerment i.e. men and boys engagement in promoting women's leadership
  • Challenge gender inequality wherever possible, in an accessible and engaging way, and plan for appropriate and innovative tools and measures to address the inequality
  • Ensure GESI mainstreaming in all projects and that a strong GESI-sensitive approach is integrated into all activities, campaigns and outcomes
  • Build strategic partnerships and alliances with other key actors internally and externally to advocate for GESI-sensitive programming
  • Develop relevant advocacy and communication/information materials to address gender and social inequality issues
  • Support management team in drafting grant making proposals and concept motes
  • Identifies and communicates relevant issues and information for advocacy 

Capacity Development: 

  • Support management team to enhance capacity of the staffs on policies, practices and recent discourses related to GESI
  • Train and capacitate project beneficiaries and stakeholders on GESI
  • Lead and assist GESI trainings, workshops and conferences of the organization
  • Assist in creating the sharing and learning platform to share information and knowledge about GESI to staffs

Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting: 

  • Conduct monitoring of the field projects and performance of staffs in line with GESI principles 
  • Prepare GESI related success case studies of the projects 
  • Prepare high quality learning materials (flyers, brochures, leaflet) based on project based outcomes and approaches 
  • Prepare high quality (both English and Nepali as per need) monthly/quarterly/annual progress reports of projects and activities

Required Core Competencies, Qualifications & Experiences:

  • Must be a Nepali citizen
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Law, Gender/Women/GESI Studies, Sociology, Development Studies or related field 
  • Preference will be given to the candidates from the Law background
  • Thorough understanding of GESI issues in Nepalese context 
  • Demonstrated experience of three years or more in donor funded GESI related projects/NGOs 
  • Experience with capacity building of staffs, convening and facilitating trainings and workshops at district and higher level
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali
  • Ability to develop capacity building frameworks, training manuals and work plans
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email/Internet)
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural as well as with busy working environment, handling with the pressure of works and meet the deadlines

Duration: The initial contract will be for six months, with the option to extension based on the satisfactory performance
