Job Description

  • The Pavement Engineer shall determine the cause of pavement deterioration for 300+ km prioritized roads and determine suitable pavement maintenance and rehabilitation options. Condition surveys and non-destructive testing of pavement and the geotechnical investigation has been carried out on each of the prioritized road sections. The Pavement Engineer shall analyze this information and together with the review of other relevant documented investigations, will establishthe causes of poor pavement performance and failure. 
  • The pavement assessment shall consist of a number of different analytical procedures as it isexpected that the pavement issues could range from simple resurfacing (preceded by repairs and other minor works) through to pavement reconstruction. Resurfacing and pavement strengthening treatments will be based on deflection measurements and visual assessments/pavement surfacing ratings while options for road sections requiring more significant works will be based on structural assessments of the subgrade and related geotechnical investigations (DCP, in-situ densities pavement thickness measurements, etc.).
  • The Pavement Engineer will develop an understanding of the subsoil and pavement environment, especially moisture contents and drainage issues.
  • The Pavement Engineer will strictly comply with the following IRC standards are used, and the AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures, and Canadian Pavement Design Guide (CGRA) and the Ausroads Pavement Design Guide.
  1. IRC: 37-2012 -Tentative Guidelines for the design of Flexible Pavements;
  2. IRC:81-1997 - Guidelines for Strengthening of Flexible Road Pavements Using Benkelman Beam Deflection Technique.
  • These standards will be used to determine the scope of rehabilitation, overlay or resealing works required to restore pavement conditions or provide additional strengthening necessary for traffic loads.
  • The Pavement Engineer shall work from the APPIIC office.
  • He/she will bring his/her own laptop and design and reporting software. 
  • The Engineer must also be available to work during the weekends if so required by the Task Team Leader. 
  • Travel outside Kathmandu is not foreseen, but this may change as necessary.

The Period of engagement: January 09 - February 03, 2017. 

 Working hours:  08.30 - 17.30 hours  (Monday - Friday) .

If the individual consultant(s) has been proposed by a firm, only the experience and qualifications of the individual consultant shall be used in the selection process, not the firm’s corporate experience

For each day traveled outside Kathmandu area, each of these Consultants will receive a per diem of $30 to cover for their expenses. Hotels and transport will be provided by the Project.
