Job Description

TITLE: National Professional Officer 
GRADE: NO-B
CONTRACT TYPE: Special Service Agreement  (SSA) 
UNIT/OFFICE: Program for Immunization Preventable Disease
DUTY STATION: Kathmandu 

Under the direct supervision of the National Coordinator, the incumbent performs following duties:

1. To provide direct technical support as part of the Secretariat to the Nepal National Committee on Immunisation Practices (NCIP) will:

  • Support the NCIP and its executive secretariat in developing, implementing, and monitoring
  • Support the NCIP in developing its technical capacity as an independent advisory committee to the Department of Health Services/Ministry of Health
  • Support the preparation of the scientific and technical background documents in advance of the NCIP meeting and circulate the documents prior to the meeting
  • Support the Government of Nepal and NCIP Chair to develop the agenda for NCIP meetings
  • Support the NCIP by preparing minutes of the proceedings for final review and approval by the NCIP

2. To serve as effective liaison to NCIP on vaccine preventable disease surveillance, research and demonstrations he/she will:

  • Serve as liaison for sentinel surveillance sites for invasive bacterial disease, rotavirus, typhoid and others (as needed)
  • Serve as liaison to conduct post introduction evaluations (PIE) of new and underutilised vaccines such as rubella, IPV, PCV,MRSD
  • Serve as liaison for vaccine demonstration projects such as those related to typhoid cholera or HPV

3. To serve as effective liaison to NCIP and to NCIP and provide technical support to the Adverse Effect Following Immunisation (AEFI) Committee including the following:

  • Support the AEFI in developing its technical capacity as a Committee
  • Compile and document all AEFI cases for presentation to the AEFI Committee for causality assessment
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports on the activities of the AEFI Committee

4. Provide support to develop GAVI applications for new vaccine introduction and GAVI annual progress reports.

5. Maintain up-to-date case files for AEFI Committee, sentinel surveillance, vaccine demonstration projects, and vaccine post introduction evaluations. Analyze and interpret data for follow up actions, and make presentations summarizing data as required

6. Develop and maintain close working relationships with relevant Government, hospital and partner staff in designated areas.

7. Provide technical assistance for supplemental and routine immunisation.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary: In accordance with UN Scales.
