Job Description

Type of role: National Volunteer
Areas of focus: Social Accountability
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Interview date: July 2017

Role Overview:

The main purpose of this placement is to support adopt and contextualize Social inclusion and Gender Manual developed by Global team to ensure SIG perspective VSO Nepal program and approaches. The volunteer have to support to develop Social Accountability framework, guidelines and training materials and build the capacity of VSO partner and staff on SA. Besides, the Volunteer will be responsible to develop SIG and SA responsive monitoring mechanism and system in place

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Science, Development studies, Gender, Women Studies or relevant subject
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the field of Gender & Social Inclusion and Social Accountability Skills and knowledge
  • Ability to design monitoring mechanism from SIG and SA perspective.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation, communication, and networking.
  • Ability to train government and non-government staff to design and implement social inclusion and gender strategies and action plans.
  • Excellent English and Nepali language and good in documentation
  • In-depth knowledge on current social inclusion and gender policy and inequity issues at policy and program levels in Nepal.
  • Good experience assessing individual capacity and conducting training for diverse target groups.
  • Cross cultural awareness and ability to work amongst a diverse group of staff, volunteer and partners
  • Excellent cooperating skill and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Team work – Able to work effectively with other team member within the organization.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with government entities
  • Experience working in resource limited environment
  • Ability to travel, to building/training for partner staff on SIG capacity

Allowance and Accommodation:

All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
