Job Description

Type of role: National Volunteer
Areas of focus: Social Inclusion and Gender
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Interview date: July 2017
Start date: August 2017

Role Overview:

The main purpose of this placement is to support National Women Commission’s (NWC) effort to provide support on Gender Based Violence Information Management System and support legal department of NWC to deliver effective and efficient support to survivor of violence. In addition the volunteer will help to formulate effective response mechanism and gender friendly policies to prevent and prosecute of violence against women and girls cases. Furthermore he/she will encourage NWC to advocate and ensure women’s active and meaningful participation in development interventions across all line ministries.
Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Law, Gender, Development, International Relations, Public Policy/Administration or related field
  • At least one/two year of experience in law firm in Nepal, with a preference for some experience in Gender and women’s right issue
  • Data analysis experience including well command of Excel
  • Ability to deliver training on the Human Rights and International instrument on women human rights
  • Experience in training of trainers on Gender and women right’s issues
  • Trained knowledge and international experience in violence against women and girls issues
  • All applicants must possess strong written and spoken English language skills
  • Willingness to work diverse group of staff, partners and donors

Desirable:

  • Experience working with government entities
  • Management training/experience
  • Experience working in resource limited environment
  • Has good communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities often within a limited timeframe
  • Ability to travel, usually not more than one weeks continuously for occasional project assignments to provide technical assistance and capacity building/training for project staff and activities

Allowance and Accommodation:

All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
