Americares, an international non-governmental organization registered in the US, has been working in Nepal immediately after Gorkha earthquake in field of health sector recovery, HSS, MHPSS and DRR.

Improving Maternal and Newborn Health (IMANh) is a project that Americares is going to implement in 2 rural municipalities (Khandadevi & Gokulganga) of Ramechhap district in partnership of local NGO-CHURDEP and in close collaboration with MoHP, DHO Ramechhap, local health facilities and rural-municipalities. Job Description

REPORTS TO:    MHPSS Program Coordinator

LOCATION:    Kathmandu Nepal

DURATION OF POSITION: 2 months full-time with possibility of extension

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The MHPSS Program Associate will provide the following support to the AmeriCares MHPSS Program Coordinator:

  • Record/transcribe minutes and notes from meetings.
  • Utilize Google docs, Google calendar, Spreadsheet and Word Processing software with professional competency, in support of the MHPSS Program.
  • Ensure contact lists are kept up to date and organized efficiently.
  • Arrange and provide logistical support for training and program activities.
  • Attend Mental Health and Psychosocial Cluster Meetings and provide liaising assistance.
  • Provide translation and interpretation services in Nepali with preference to capacities in Tibetan and other local dialects as well.
  • Maintenance and scheduling of MHPSS Coordinator’s meeting schedule and calendar.
  • Capture and digitize program monitoring data.
  • Share cultural and contextual insights with the MHPSS Coordinator.
  • Provide updated reports and constant/relevant information to the MHPSS Coordinator.
  • Run errands and keep office supplies replenished.
  • Provide suggestions on ways to improve filing and data collection systems.
  • Provide any other necessary assistance to the MHPSS Coordinator as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant discipline, preferably in psychology, human rights, political sciences; 
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in NGO environments and liaising;
  • Excellent written and oral communication and translation skills in English and Nepali, with Tibetan and other local dialects preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations;
  • Ability to plan the work, meet tight deadlines and handle multiple concurrent projects/activities. 
  • Excellent reporting, documentation, and filing skills with computer knowledge including presentation skills in Photoshop and PowerPoint and office software package (Word, Excel & Database);
  • Experience and expertise in the use of Google calendar, internet research, email and letter writing.
  • Willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the field. 
  • Flexibility to work in difficult and changing conditions.
  • In carrying out the above activities, the MHPSS Program Associate will maintain confidentiality at all times, be punctual and available as required.
