As brick kilns producing red fired bricks are a major contributor to air pollution in Kathmandu Valley, USAID Clean Air is seeking to identify and promote cleaner innovative solutions in the brick kiln sector within Kathmandu Valley, together with municipalities and private sector. 

The purpose of this study is to design a marketing strategy for the wider adoption of hollow bricks in the building construction sector in Nepal. For this purpose, under an agreement with FHI 360 Nepal, the consultant will work closely with the BEEN project, the private sector engaged in manufacturing and promoting bricks, and with other relevant stakeholders, particularly in the Kathmandu valley. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a literature review, interact with key stakeholders, including government institutions, manufacturers of different walling materials, architects, contractors, and consumers, and conduct necessary surveys to assess the current market situation and emerging trends for both supply and demand of red fired bricks and its substitute products in Kathmandu Valley.
  • Conduct competitive analysis of hollow bricks and other competing substitute products in the Nepalese market including identification of key issues and challenges for marketing hollow bricks in the Kathmandu Valley. Identify the key market actors and other stakeholders involved in building construction business and recommend potential collaborators for hollow brick promotion and its wider adoption.
  • Recommend innovative ideas, appropriate communication tools, and promotional initiatives to 
    -Raise awareness among consumers about hollow bricks.
    -Expand the market share of hollow bricks. 
  • Develop a strategy and plan to expand the market share of the hollow bricks. The plan should include an appropriate marketing mix (four Ps of marketing or any other effective tool or framework). The strategy and plan may include the following but are not exclusive:
     -Identify target market and customer segments.
    -Unique selling points.
    -Recommend sellable message/s for promotional campaign.
    -Identify appropriate mechanisms and approaches for marketing.
    -Identify appropriate tools and platform for marketing.
    -Outline best marketing activities.
    -Draw a detailed marketing plan with specific actions to put that strategy into practice.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in enterprise development, Marketing, Economics, Business Studies or any other relevant field with five years of work experience in sales, marketing, and branding.
  • Advanced knowledge of market research, business development, branding and marketing, and brand expansion of products and services.
  • Knowledge of building construction materials and services would be an asset.
  • Good analytical skills and networking skills to engage with key stakeholders.
  • Good command in oral in both Nepali and English languages.
