Job Description

DEPARTMENT:        Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery 

REPORTS TO:         Nepal Country Director

Position Summary : The Logistics Officer is responsible for managing the provision of needed medicines and supplies to partners in earthquake-affected areas of Nepal. S/he also manages the AmeriCares warehouse and inventory management system. The Logistics Officerwill report to the Nepal Country Director. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Logistics, Inventory Management, and Supply Chain Management

  • Track all receipts and deliveries of medicines and supplies
  • Provide regular reports to the Country Director and other staff on stock levels, usage and distribution of inventory
  • Utilize a software program (Excel or other) to manage inventory.
  • Plan book and coordinatein-country supply distribution
  • Maintain and establish relationships with shipping and trucking vendors in Nepal to facilitate distribution of supplies

Warehouse Operations

  • Organize the warehouse and inventory to ensure for a an efficient work environment
  • Manage daily laborers to load/unload supplies as needed

Customs and Importation Responsibilities

  • Manage all customs and importation matters for AmeriCares’ shipments to Nepal

Partner Liaison

  • Work with Country Director to identify and vet partners, identify supply needs, and allocate product to partners
  • Ensure that partners complete documentation including receipts for goods provided and distribution reports
  • Coordinate withAmeriCares’ partners, government counterparts, donors and other implementing partners to support the project
  • Represent AmeriCares at Logistics Cluster and other relevant coordination meetings

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance on supply chain management and logistics to staff at selected health care facilities
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary to meet the needs of the program

Requirements

  • Logistics/supply chain management experience on humanitarian relief projects
  • Experience working with health/medical commodities
  • Experience working in Nepal preferred
  • Experience utilizing inventory management software or applications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience required
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency and Nepal and/or Hindi preferred
