Energising Development (EnDev) is a global partnership to promote sustainable and affordable energy access in developing economies around the globe which is currently financed by four donor countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and, Switzerland.

EnDev promotes sustainable access to modern energy services that meet the needs of the poor - long-lasting, affordable, and appreciated by users.

EnDev Programme in Nepal is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur lnternationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) since 2008 to facilitate access to modern energy services through the on-grid, off-grid and clean cooking technologies. EnDev is working together with the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) and the National Association of Community Electricity Users Nepal (NACEUN) to improve access to the energy (electricity) of the rural population through a Revolving Fund (RF) mechanism. Similarly, Practical Action & SNV are implementing projects with the theme of promoting “Clean Cooking Technologies through Sustainable Market Development” to provide clean, efficient, and safe cooking solutions to rural households in Nepal by establishing a sustainable market system of electric cookstoves.

Position: Junior Advisor- Energy
Duty Station: Kathmandu

Responsibilities:

  • Support in implementing programmme operational activities according to programme objectives and agreements.
  • Support Energy Advisors in implementing and technical monitoring of Off-grid, On-grid, and Productive use of Energy (PUE) component activities of EnDev Nepal.
  • Coordinate with the team, partners, and stakeholders to execute the respective components successfully.
  • Keep abreast of the construction and electrification status of the on-grid/off-grid projects in coordination with off-grid/on-grid component leads and partners.
  • Support to carry out capacity need assessment of relevant partners in the field and plan appropriate capacity building activities in line with the Energy Advisors.
  • Facilitate CREEs to participate in grid densification program by providing technical assistance to develop quality proposals and reports.
  • Support in coordinating and evaluating the needs of Community Utilities, COOPs of existing MHP utilities to run the utility properly.
  • Support in the energy data analysis, and presentation to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the program activities by maintaining a database of key energy parameters in terms of energy access and consumption of EnDev project sites.
  • Support knowledge management in the components as well as dissemination of relevant experiences within the team, the organization as well as to partners and stakeholders through follow up & coordination with implementing/local partners to ensure good practices in operating the utilities.
  • Assist in field-level monitoring, data collection, and analysis of the EnDev Nepal components.
  • Follow up to ensure the submission of timely and good quality reports from project partners and consultants.
  • Provide logistical support in organizing different meetings, workshops, seminars, and events at the central and local level.
  • Maintain a good flow of communication and information between all involved institutions and counterparts and GIZ.
  • Any additional task assigned by the Programme Manager.

Required qualification and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the field of energy/renewable energy, rural electrification, productive use of energy
  • Preferrable with field experience
  • Very good command of written and spoken English, fluency in Nepali
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and modern telecommunication systems (telephone, fax, e-mail, internet)
