Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invites applications from suitable
and qualified individuals for the Green Resilient Agricultural Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) project.
LPED/GRAPE is a joint Nepali-German Programme under the guidance of the Ministry of Land
Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLCPA), Government of Nepal with Technical
Assistance by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, commissioned
by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by
the European Union and Finland. The overall volume of the project is 18,35 Mio. EUR.

The overall objective of the Programme is that framework conditions for local economic development in
selected (rural and urban) municipalities and value chains at local and provincial level are improved.

The Programme has four output areas:
(1) Economic governance
(2) Action research
(3) Rolling-out
(4) Scaling-up

Position: Junior Advisor
Duty Station: Kolti, Bajura

Responsibilities:

  • Implement project activities in the assigned cluster
  • Project coordination at cluster level
  • Carry out specific research tasks which are required for planning the implementation of projects or programmes 
  • Carry out specific tasks in connection with monitoring and knowledge management for the project/programme
  • Support the team leader and other experts for whom the junior advisor performs technical task

Tasks
Implementation of project activities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects
  • Advise project stakeholders on project related topics 
  • Support logistics for project activities as well as the participation of stakeholders in project activities
  • Moderate team meetings and workshops and events with partners
  • Support in developing training materials 
  • Carry out basic training to local partners, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders
  • Support quality assurance of the tasks implemented by partners and service providers

Project coordination 

  • Support coordination with partners and development partners
  • Assist short-term experts assigned to projects/programmes in completing their tasks 
  • Participate in fora and public hearings on issues directly connected with the project/programme

Research

  • Prepare and carry out qualitative research projects in consultation with the manager or expert (developing survey instruments, field trials, training field staff, organisational preparation in the field, collecting and analysing data)

Knowledge management

  • Assist in drawing up reports and translations
  • Assist in organising learning events/ interactions at the municipal, cluster and province level.
  • Assist in communicating, updating and collecting information relating to all fields of action
  • Organise and updates project documentation, the filing systems and the project
  • Assist with recording and documenting the results of all activities
  • Assist with PR work for the project
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining project databases 

General obligations

  • Represent the interest of the GIZ-assisted measure and always acts on its behalf
  • Carry out important tasks for the project/programme, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Assist other experts, if necessary, as translator
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management 

Required qualification and experience

  • MA in agricultural sciences / economics, natural resource management, climate change studies, public management or similar studies relevant for the project objectives 
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in development cooperation in project(s) focussing on agriculture, natural resource management, climate change or local governance 
  • Experience in the development sector is an advantage 
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office) 
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Nepali 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
