Title: IT Administrator
Grade: 5
Reports To: Head of Finance and Admin
Based: Kathmandu
Duration: Till 31st December 2021 with possibility of extension subject to funding

Job purpose

  • Reporting to Head of Finance and Admin, the job holder will work closely with the UK Technology team and provide overall IT support to BBC Media Action Nepal office.

Main duties

  • Administer/ Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all current IT systems, including LAN, WLAN and wi-fi connectivity, PCs, operating systems, software applications, and peripherals
  • Administer/ Manage Total network, core switch, Routing and Firewall. 
  • Manage Storage system (SAN or NAS Drives).
  • Management of IP PBX (Telephony exchange).
  • Manage Local conferencing systems (video/audio).
  • Ensure Server Management (including backup, security etc) is done effectively.
  • Administer Antivirus alerts and action.
  • Inventory and asset management for all IT and production equipment including licenses.
  • Email Configuration
  • Oversee provision of IT Support for the office as well as to production teams in outdoor workshops, live events and outdoor broadcasts.
  • Data Centre Power Management 
  • Local Technology Projects – e.g. online projects, upgrades etc
  • Purchase and Vendor Management 
  • Manage Access Control System 
  • User desktop, laptop, printer, scanner maintenance and troubleshooting. 
  • Smart phone configuration 
  • User support and training on different Media Action systems like Office 365, SharePoint, MS Teams, Outlook etc.
  • Configuring and Supporting any bespoke organisational systems e.g. Finance System (Access Dimensions) etc.
  • Manage BBC Media Action Ticketing system for the country office:
  1. Create ticket(s)
  2. Respond to ticket(s)
  3. Act on the issues and provide solutions 
  4. or escalate as required
  5. Resolve the call when solution is achieved
  • Maintenance of broadcast technology systems (studio, edit facilities)
  • Participate in the regional/ global IT meetings to share and acquire more technology related skills and knowledge

Essential skills and experience 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent education and relevant experience of at least 2 years.
  • Progressive IT experience, including experience in a multi-office environment. Experience in working with non-profits and/or membership organisation’s preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and evaluative skills
  • Ability to technically service and support PCs, printers, scanners, including the installation of general software packages including Windows (XP, 7, Office 2010, Outlook) and anti-virus software. 
  • Experience of writing comprehensive technical documentation from proposals to technical design 
  • Ability to configure basic routers and service wireless connectivity throughout the office. 
  • Sound understanding of networking hardware, storage systems and backup utilities.
  • Experience providing technical support in an AV, broadcast, technology, or similar environment, either in studio or outside broadcast environment. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations
  • Knowledge of current and relevant health and safety legislation particularly electrical safety.
