The Gurkha Welfare Trust Nepal (GWT(N)) is the field arm of The Gurkha Welfare Trust UK, a registered charitable Trust working particularly for the ex-Gurkha Veterans and their communities across Nepal. It is a charitable institution, established and registered in the UK in 1969. The GWT(N) ensures that Gurkha veterans, their widows and their wider communities are able to live their lives with dignity. We achieve this primarily through the provision of financial, medical and community aid.

  • Must have qualified as a Medical Doctor (MBBS), with at least two years of experience in a clinical role post MBBS

  • Must be physically and mentally resilient and prepared to work under pressure for prolonged periods and to meet deadlines in both office and austere field environments
  • Qualifications or previous exposure to healthcare management or public health are desirable
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop rapport with a range of disciplines

Job Description

The HQ Support Doctor divides his/her time between four main areas of responsibility: 

  • Secondary medical care claims, 
  • Clinical management of medical camps, 
  • HQ clinic, 
  • GWT internal occupational health. In addition, they will occasionally provide resilience support to frontline clinical services as directed by and agreed with the Secondary Care Liaison Manager and Deputy Medical Director. 
Note: Although the position is based at HQ GWT in Pokhara, it requires frequent travel to all clusters, more than 50% of the time.
