Saathi is a non-governmental organization established in 1992 to address the different forms of violence and discrimination faced by Nepali women and girls. It was the first organization that was instrumental in drawing significant national attention towards domestic violence in Nepal as an area requiring urgent attention and intervention to break the silence that impacts the lives of many marginalized women and girls. It has persistently continued its crusade for creating a safe and violence-free society where women and children can live with respect and dignity.

Background

Saathi, a national level non-governmental organization committed to advance the rights of women and girls, works for the elimination of all forms of gender-based discrimination and violence. Guided by the social justice principle the organization is devising intersectional gender lens to address the gender diversity across all of its interventions. It adopts the gender transformative approach, engaging men and boys as allies for gender equality, close coordination with government for transformative policies, and contributing to the cross-movement bringing the diverse gender and sexual minorities in the mainstream development. Saathi extensively works to ensure safety security and empowerment of women and girls faced with sexual and gender-based violence, providing them with essential services. It strategizes advocacy for the gender responsive government policy and programs. Saathi also works to empower the local CSOs, providing them with technical skills, knowledge and the intersectional gender perspective and approaches in the delivery of the GBV essential services, assuring its quality. 

Under the overall guidance of the Executive Director, the GBV Coordinator is responsible overall management of the implementation of the GBV prevention and response program. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Lead Saathi’s GBV Program and team and oversee strategic and technical elements of GBV prevention and response, particularly in Sudurpaschim Province. 
  • Review national and international policy and instruments related to gender equality
  • Analyze GBV situation in Nepal, explore opportunities for collaboration and partnerships in addressing GBV, draft advocacy strategy to access resources at provincial and local level for effectiveness and sustainability of GBV prevention and response program.
  • Conduct assessment of the provincial and local level policies, programs and practices whether they adequately address the diverse gender needs and are sensitive towards the survivors of violence 
  • Design , develop and implement the MEAL plan for the GBV programs of Saathi 
  • Formulation of the annual work plans, ensure application of result-based management and quality assurance procedures of the projects 
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure that the program is right based, gender responsive and addresses the intersectional gender needs 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and donors reports as required
  • Design, develop and deliver training related to CSO capacity building, safe house management and essential service delivery 
  • Provide technical and advisory support on GESI to local governments and other partners on appropriate approaches to strengthen gender inclusion from intersectional lens
  • Collaborate with federal, provincial and local government units to promote and facilitate gender-responsive policy, planning, and legislation through evidence-based advocacy initiatives integrated into development plans and budgets.
  • Compile and analyze CEDAW COBs and UNFPA strategy document to create advocacy materials for gender equality at federal, provincial and local level. 
  • Represent Saathi in different national level GEWE forums, interaction, and meetings, as seen relevant 
  • Design the development as well as implementation of surveys, research and evaluations of program activities.
  • Develop and document success stories and good practices on gender equality and women empowerment
  • Develop quality and analytical program documents, knowledge products, reports and submit them timely
  • Act as a gender and communication focal person of the GBV program

Education and Experience: 

  • Advanced university Degree in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, Economics, Public Administration, Management or other related fields.
  • At least seven years of increasing responsibility and professional experience in management and development relevant to gender-based violence, gender equality, reproductive rights, public health, or similar role. 
  • Substantive knowledge and practical experience in the area of gender-based violence, advocacy, programme implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in reporting to UN agencies and bilateral donors
  • Excellent communications and writing skills in English and Nepali 
  • Field experience is required; experience working in the Sudurpaschim province will be an added asset
