- The Consultant will prepare preliminary designs using AutoCAD of the proposed solutions to mitigate slope instability problems. He/she may be required to conduct geotechnical assessment, structural stability checks, and evaluation of the hydraulic performance.
- The Consultant will be asked to present technical solutions for several locations that require surface erosion control, retaining walls, embankment improvement, rockfall protection, etc.). He/She will prepare design reports presenting all design calculations, considerations and assumptions.
- The Consultant shall work from the APPIIC office. He/she will bring his/her own laptop and design and AutoCAD software.
- The Engineer must also be available to work during the weekends if so required by the Task Team Leader.
- Travel outside Kathmandu is foreseen. It is expected that the Engineer will travel over H11, H07 and H08 to review and study specific site problems.
- The Candidate must have a Civil Engineering Degree with special attention to geotechnics, hydraulics and civil structures.
- The Candidate should have at least 10 years working experience with the following engineering aspects (either through university studies or job experience):
- GEOTECHNICS: Soil parameter selection on the basis of ground investigation data supplied by Clients, earth pressure theory, preliminary evaluation of the settlements, slope stability, international geotechnical standards/codes;
- HYDRAULICS: Free surface flow, river hydrology, river flood protection, underground water flow, analysis of extreme events (rain, river discharges);
- STRUCTURES: Retaining wall stability, preliminary designs, design of rock fall protection structures, international standards/codes
The Period of engagement: January 09 -February 03, 2017.
Working hours: 08.30 - 17.30 hours (Monday to Friday).

Interested consultants must provide “Expression of Interest” including daily fee rates inclusive all costs, (except expenses on missions outside Kathmandu) and a current CV. The CV shall demonstrate that the Candidate possess the qualification and experience to perform the services, together with names and contact details of former supervisors or clients for reference.
If the individual consultant(s) has been proposed by a firm, only the experience and qualifications of the individual consultant shall be used in the selection process, not the firm’s corporate experience.
For each day traveled outside Kathmandu area, each of these Consultants will receive a per diem of $30 to cover for their expenses. Hotels and transport will be provided by the Project.
