Job Description

Roles and responsibilities of this job

To oversee and manage finance operations, ensure accuracy of financial records, enforce internal controls, review assistant-level work, and support strategic financial management and compliance.

Department: Finance & Administration
Reports To: Finance Manager / Director
Supervises: Finance Officer

Key Responsibilities:

1. Accounting Oversight & Review

Make entries and make sure that all received invoices are proper and authentic
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
Approve posting of transactions into the accounting system.

2. Fee & Revenue Management

Review and approve fee structures, discounts, and adjustments.
Validate student account reconciliations and reports from branches.
Ensure proper revenue recognition and reporting.

3. Audit & Compliance Management

Lead preparation for internal and external audits.
Review audit schedules prepared by assistants.
Ensure compliance with policies, laws, and donor requirements (if applicable).
Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.

4. Banking & Cash Management

Review bank reconciliations prepared by assistants.
Authorize payments within delegated authority limits.
Coordinate with banks for financial matters.
Monitor cash flow and liquidity position.

5. Financial Reporting

Review and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Analyze financial performance and provide insights to management.
Ensure timely submission of reports.

6. Internal Control & Risk Management

Ensure proper segregation of duties is maintained.
Strengthen internal control systems and procedures.
Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.

7. Team Supervision & Capacity Building

Supervise and guide Finance Assistants.
Provide training and capacity development.
Allocate tasks and monitor performance.

Authority & Limitations:

Authorized to approve transactions within delegated limits.
Responsible for review and supervision, not routine execution.
No unilateral authority for major financial decisions without higher approval.

Mapping to Internal Control Framework:

Execution Layer: Finance Assistant
Review & Authorization: Finance Officer / Mid-Level Manager
Final Approval: Finance Manager / Director
Audit Oversight: Internal / External Auditor

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 3 years

Other Specification

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Professional certification such as CA, ACCA, or CPA (partially/fully qualified) is an advantage
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance roles
Prior experience in a supervisory or review-level position preferred
Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and compliance requirements

Skills & Competencies

1. Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
Experience with accounting software (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks, ERP systems)
Ability to review financial statements, reconciliations, and audit schedules
Understanding of taxation, compliance, and audit processes

2. Analytical Skills

Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Risk assessment and internal control evaluation capability

3. Leadership & Supervision

Experience in supervising and guiding junior finance staff
Ability to review, delegate, and monitor team performance
Training and mentoring skills

4. Communication Skills

Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to coordinate with management, auditors, and external stakeholders

5. Organizational Skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
High level of integrity and professionalism
