Nepal Water & Energy Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (NWEDC) is an energy utility company specialized in hydropower development and was established with an intention of encouraging foreign investment to work in the area of hydropower in Nepal.

The 216 MW UT-1 Hydroelectric Project located in Rasuwa District of Nepal will annually generate 1456 GWh  of hydroelectricity and supply to the National Grid of Nepal.

  • Bachelor degree/Masters Preferred in Environmental Science/Natural Resource Management/Environmental Management
  • At least 3 years in designing and implementing Environment management programs for hydropower/other infrastructure project/international donors funded programs. The candidate familiar with IFC/WB/ADB standards/safeguards will of added advantages
  • Excellent command in written and spoken skills in English
  • Must have clear understanding & experience in baseline survey, M&E process and tools
  • Have knowledge on qualitative and quantitative M&E system, monitoring of LALRP, Benefits Sharing, Environment Management Plan of approved EIA and socio economic status
  • Should have interpersonal communication, facilitation and representation skills
  • Skill in file management & E-communication
  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to use appropriate technology for presentation to Lenders and stakeholders
  • Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently
  • Willing to travel as and when required

Job Description

  • Document, and implement environmental and social management and monitoring plan
  • Support planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of Environment and Social Management activities (EIA-EMP and ESIA, Livelihood Restoration Plan etc.) of Company, and its projects
  • Assist Environmental Manager carrying out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks and financial costs owing to risk associated 
  • Assist Environmental Manager to make sure the compliance of Environmental and Social Performance Standards (safeguards) in both the company and its projects
  • Assist Environmental Manager to co-ordinate with IFC/Lenders E and S Officials including concerned government agencies, local and regional, before and during construction
  • Prepare guidelines, tools and notes for use based on relevant environmental policies, acts and regulations/ directives of the Government of Nepal (GoN) and relevant safeguard policies of IFC and Lenders
  • Monitor the E and S program activities and responsible for coordination, collection and compilation of data on a regular basis (weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually)
  • Prepare and submit technical reports as per Government and lenders requirements and ensure financial progress reports are matched with technical project reports
  • Support collaboration with specific key stakeholders, such as Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Department of Forest, Department of Water Induced Disaster Prevention (WIDP) on important environmental issues
  • Assist E & S Manager to implement an inclusive and effective community stakeholder engagement plan to aimed at improving the lives of affected communities, and conflict management
