Job Description

Reporting to                :              Administrative/Logistics Assistant

Duration                      :             12 months with possibility of renewal contingent on funding (anticipated start date May 1, 2016)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure optimal utilization and maintenance of AmeriCares vehicles in accordance with AmeriCares, donor and Nepal government policies and procedures.

The Responsibilities of the Driver will include, but are not limited to the following:

Ensure safety of passengers and property at all times.

  • Manage vehicles with care and use them with respect.
  • Drive office vehicles for transport of AmeriCares and other authorized personnel within Kathmandu valley and in the field, as required.  Ensure vehicles are exclusively used by AmeriCares staff, visitors, partners, and guests; unauthorized passengers are strictly forbidden.
  • Ensure that passengers riding in AmeriCares vehicles wear seat belts at all times; drivers are responsible for enforcing this rule in their vehicles. 
  • Communicate with the Administrative/Logistics Assistant or designate of any movement of any vehicle from the office, any deviation from the planned route of travel, or changes of schedule. 
  • Carefully assess surroundings before parking, particularly at night. It is the driver’s responsibility to be attentive to potential threats. 
  • Conduct regular checks of the vehicles, especially upon return from field trips and recommend to Driver/Mechanic or designate when vehicle is in need of maintenance, repair and/or service.
  • Responsible for day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery, breaks, tires, etc and log official trips, daily mileage, oil consumption, oil change, etc. 
  • Responsible for the vehicle to be in good operating condition - keep clean, check oil, gas, water, tires and brakes every morning. Make sure all vehicles are filled with fuel each evening. 
  • Before leaving for trips, check and ensure that vehicles are in proper order - spare tire, tools and first aid kit.
  • Driving must be done safely and in a manner which does not damage the vehicle of which takes into account the road conditions. The use of vehicles is only for official business.
  • Verify and ensure that copies of required vehicle registration documentation are available in the vehicle on a regular basis with driver maintaining a valid driver’s license at all times.
  • Ensure that vehicles are equipped with all equipment necessary to operate in Nepal according to government regulations and as dictated by circumstances in the field.
  • Maintain vehicle log book for refueling and vehicle movements with submission to Administrative/Logistics Assistant or designate at the end of every month.
  • Undertake other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Excellent active listening skills: giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate.
  • Above average active learning skills: understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Good complex problem solving skills: identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Four-wheel drive training and experience. 
  • Minimum of five years in previous work experience as a Driver in I/NGOs or UN organizations in Nepal.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of High School Graduate.
  • Be in possession of a valid light vehicle driver’s license.
  • We anticipate this assignment will last 12 months. Must be available for that amount of time.
