The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Specialist, working closely with thematic Program Thematic Specialists and with the Humanitarian Manager, provides overall vision and strategic direction to Save the Children’s DRR and CCA programming in Nepal and Bhutan. This includes development and promotion of DRR & CCA strategies; working with other thematic specialists to ensure their themes address DRR & CCA; the design of DRR & CCA proposals; DRR & CCA capacity building and training activities; fund raising and representation in government coordinated activities, appropriate networks and forums. S/he ensures accuracy in production of all Save the Children reports, proposals and publication in her/his area of responsibility. S/he is in forefront in initiating and influencing policy development at both national and international level on DRR and CCA.
Under the guidance of Deputy Country Director of PDQ s/he will also be responsible to support and coordinate with other thematic specialists, the Humanitarian Manager, and POD managers as required. As a member of the Extended Senior Management Team (ESMT) in Nepal, he shares the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office in DRR and CCA. S/he supports Save the Children’s dual mandate of development programs as well as being the leader in emergency preparedness and response for children.
Term and Location: Fixed term position based in Kathmandu with field visits
Required Qualification: Master's degree or equivalent in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Resource Economics, Engineering or other fields relevant to DRR and CCA with at least 5 years of relevant work experience (related to DRR & CCA) especially in a managerial role including grants management
