Roles and responsibilities of this job

The Database Technology Specialist is a hands-on technical expert responsible for the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of databases supporting FlexTecs’ internal clients. This role focuses on optimising database code, monitoring and enhancing server health and performance, and proactively managing technical debt.

The specialist will collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure data-driven solutions are robust, efficient, and aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Optimization & Maintenance

Analyze, optimize, and refactor database code to ensure high performance and scalability for internal applications.
Implement and maintain loop-back mechanisms for data validation and integrity.
Identify and address bottlenecks in database queries and stored procedures.
Proactively manage and reduce technical debt within the database environment.

2. Server Health & Performance Monitoring

Continuously monitor database server health, availability, and resource utilization.
Develop and implement strategies for performance tuning and capacity planning.
Respond to and resolve performance incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to internal clients.
Maintain documentation of server configurations, incidents, and resolutions.

3. Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with internal development, operations, and business teams to understand requirements and deliver effective database solutions.
Communicate technical concepts and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Prepare and present reports on database performance, incidents, and improvement initiatives.

4. Quality Assurance & Support

Uphold high standards of database quality, security, and compliance.
Participate in code reviews and validation of database changes.
Provide advanced support for database-related issues, troubleshooting complex problems as they arise.

Reporting Line: Reports directly to the Audit Development Manager.

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Under Graduate (Bachelor)

Required Experience:More than 5 years

Other Specification

5+ years of experience with SQL Server or similar RDBMS, including advanced T- SQL development.
Strong background in database design, architecture, and performance tuning.
Proven experience in monitoring and optimizing database server health and performance.
Demonstrated ability to identify and manage technical debt in database environments.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (advanced degree preferred).
Experience supporting internal business applications is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills

Experience with automation of database monitoring and alerting.
Familiarity with DevOps practices as applied to database management.
Ability to mentor and share best practices with peers.
Passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
