Job Purpose

To contribute for strategic engagement to WV’s communications across Nepal.

The position aims to: 

  • Develop and manage evidence-based high-quality content to engage public and contribute to resource generation for strategy execution and impact 
  • Build the reputation and influence of WVI Nepal through mainstream and social media to mobilize public for social and policy change
  • Contribute as a emergency communications focal in amplifying the voice of disaster-affected communities during an event of a disaster
Major Responsibilities 

  • Produce, review, edit and manage communications resources (stories, video, photos, media advisories, etc.) from the field for Partnership-wide use and in collaboration with regional communications staff. 
  • Create and manage content calendar identifying key dates or campaign needs and work closely with team for optimal production and utilization of resources. 
  •  Liaison with regional communications teams to help position and respond to communications and media needs for different audiences globally. 
  • Ensure communication products as well as designs are brand aligned
  • Manage digital media (website, social media) to boost brand awareness, engage audiences and showcase impact.
  • Identify and train key staff of PNGOs for effective utilizations of traditional and social media.
  • Co-ordinate communications and media response in the event of a disaster in accordance with Disaster Communications Standards, assuring “first mover advantage” for WV.
  • Identify opportunities to engage the media and prepare engagement plan 
  • Contribute in integrating global and national initiatives, priorities and campaigns for brand alignment, consistent messaging and disseminating these elements in a locally-appropriate way.
  • Contribute to the visibility of the ITAW campaign through various communications platforms and products.
  • Build capacity of NGO partners in the area of communications through appropriate communication training, access to information, and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and maintain effective relations with national media for organizational positioning and advocacy messaging at the national and local level
  • Work in partnership with Programmes and GAM unit to develop high-quality evidence resources and identify opportunities for strategic utilizations
  • Leverage existing partnerships to position WV's brand and messaging

Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role

Required Professional Experience

  • At least five years professional experience in communications or media relations
  • Proven English language fluency (written and verbal)
  • Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
  • An energetic, analytical and self-starting approach to projects that involve significant responsibility
  • Experience working in a field context, including conducting interviews and taking photos
  • Master’s degree in Mass Communications/ Journalism or equivalent
  • Knowledge of advocacy, development and relief work
  • Understanding of media in Nepal 
  • Knowledge and skills in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Understanding of children’s issues in Nepal
  • General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports, etc. 
  • Experience in people and performance management
