Location: Kathmandu with frequent travel to field (Kailali)

General Position Summary

The Communication Specialist will be responsible for leading and implementing communication and knowledge management initiative for STEM II Project. This position is under direct supervision of the Program Manager, and closely works with MEL team of STEM II project. S/he will assist PM for project representation at the Kathmandu level, lead efforts to prepare report, different program audit in compliance with donor rules and regulations, and lead efforts to formalise relationships with STEM stakeholders and key government agencies through meetings, agreements where required. 

As gender and social inclusion (GESI), child safe guarding, governance and M&E are cross-cutting components of all Mercy Corps program(s), this position is required to own these components and ensure GESI sensitivity and integration, governance practices and M&E systems are integrated into his/her work area.

Reports Directly to: Program Manager
Works Directly with: Education Coordinator, M&E Manager, M&E Team and partner staff.

Success Factors 

The successful Communication Specialist should be a good communicator and high-level understanding and skill of communicating and documenting projects results and best practices. S/he is a skilled communicator and documenter, able to develop and utilize strong relationships with staff, partners and donors. S/he will be a skilled writer and synthesizer of diverse and complex information, helping teams to generate new insights into their works focused to communication and knowledge management areas. S/he will have an ability to think creatively about improving sustainable livelihood, climate change, community based program, and resilience. Multi-tasking, prioritizing, problem solving and simultaneous attention to detail, as well as strategic vision, are essential.
