The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Being one of the largest NGOs in the country working in the field of leprosy, TLM Nepal mainly focuses in working with and for people affected by leprosy. Its development interventions focuses in the areas of health, capacity building, education, sustainable livelihoods, community development, advocacy and research working towards equity and inclusion of people affected by leprosy and disability in the development process.

Job Title            : Business Development Officer (BDO)
Location            : Lalitpur Cluster 
Job Family         : Programs

Reports To         : Cluster Manager (CM)
Working Hours  : 8:30AM – 4:00PM 

Overall purpose of job:

Business Development Officer (BDO) will bring significant experience in establishing public relationships with business owners, employers, government representatives in related areas of work, DPOs, and people with disability. BDO will ensure that the relationship with business owners and employers will bring about new opportunities to enroll skilled people with disability into the appropriate employment. Place people with disability into the matching job. Conduct monitoring and supervision of people with disability placed in formal and self-employment, analyze feedbacks received from employers, and recruit people with disability. Provide technical support to CM for timely preparation and delivery of routine progress reports. Assist Cluster Manager in maintaining subnational level networking and advocacy in coordination with the national government (Municipality, Ward), business owners, DPOs, etc. Design recruitment plans together with EC to successfully recruit People with Disability in formal and self-employment.

Under the direction of Cluster Manager, BDO will implement FOUND project activities in the designated cluster and will implement the following duties:

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of Cluster Manager, BDO will implement FOUND project activities in the designated cluster and will: 
  • Understand and comprehend project needs and identify core clients
  • Find out market needs, number of positions, and businesses that are best fit for People with Disability
  • Explore jobs requirements from a wider range of companies and recruiting agencies to create a robust employers’ database.
  • Build rapport with business owners, employers, HRs, and human resource outsourcing companies.
  • Build partnerships with companies to facilitate the job, internship placements, and the number of placement opportunities. 
  • Career counseling - Help beneficiaries to identify the right career path. 
  • Contact businesses and industries to establish reciprocally beneficial partnerships for jobs, internships, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Assess, identify and support career-oriented persons with disabilities, provide career advice, recommend appropriate skill enhancement training that eventually supports them to enter into suitable jobs.
  • Collaborate with Cluster Manager to organise Employers meet, Stakeholders meet, and other workshops to fulfill the goal and objective of FOUND Project.
  • Generate opportunities to access business institutions through the support of government line agencies, coordination committees, and trusted business owners, FNCCI committee, and subcommittee
  • Build a relationship with Business Confederations, independent entrepreneurs, and other service provider associations
  • Support People with Disability to develop a business plan to establish and sustain self-employment
  • Regularly share information about employment possibilities with Employment Counselor (EC) to equip People with Disability for placement
  • Work together with EC to classify People with Disability into suitable areas of employment
  • Participate with Cluster Manager and Employment Counselor in developing practical guidance/handbook for creating cost-effective disability-friendly workplaces 
  • Link EC and People with Disability with employers for on-the-job counseling and sensitization.
  • Promote significance of Disability Confident Employer Movement (DCEM) among business owners

Monitoring, Learning, and Sharing

  • Make regular workplace visits to monitor people with disability at workplace and get updates on their attitude, confidence, employability skills, and job continuation plan and regularly report back to CM. 
  • Conduct regular monitoring and keep updated information of all people with disability and employers you work with.
  • Use and maintain affirmed data management tools to monitor regular progress of beneficiaries and report back to CM.
  • Provide monthly action plan with clear targets; Develop and share clear movement plan.
  • Share project-specific problems with CM and central office on a timely basis
  • Collect compelling case stories of the employed beneficiaries and the employer
  • Collect, maintain and share feedbacks collected from employers and employed people with disability.
  • Maintain complaint feedback log and report it on a monthly basis

Person Specification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, or any other relevant area of studies
  • At least 3 years of experience in a relevant field
  • Excellent Communication and influential skill
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation of similar project and data collection methodologies
  • Extensive field experience in targeted districts and a solid understanding of the realities and complexities of working with businesses and people with disability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Nepali and strong command of written English;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Candidate with working experience with DFID funded program preferred
