Job Description

The primary purpose of the bookkeeper is to maintain accurate financial records, process accounts payable and receivable, reconcile bank statements, and generate financial reports. This role requires excellent organisational skills, proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, and a commitment to upholding financial integrity. 

They will work closely with office staff and our external accountant to provide bookkeeping and general administrative support to our business.

Major responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Process invoices, payments, and expenses promptly. Coordinate vendors to ensure timely payments.
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices and resolve discrepancies as needed. This includes chasing student fee payments to ensure they pay according to the schedule.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements and identify discrepancies or errors. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
  • Preparation of monthly or quarterly business activity statements (BAS).
  • Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Provide regular financial updates to management and stakeholders as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets. Track expenses against budgeted amounts and report any variances.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and guidelines. Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, vendors, and external stakeholders regarding financial matters.

  • Provide general administrative support and clerical duties including 
  • Act in accordance with Brighton College values policies and procedures 
  • Cooperate with all workplace health and safety and emergency procedures and take all reasonable care for their own and others' health and safety. 
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required
