RECOFTC is implementing its program in Nepal through its local entity- Center for People and Forests known as RECOFTC Nepal. Center for people and forests - RECOFTC Nepal is inviting applicants for the position of Assistant Program Officer (APO). The successful applicant will be based in the RECOFTC Nepal office in Lalitpur, Nepal. The contract duration is for 12 months with a possibility of extension subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or natural resource management or environmental science
  • Good understanding of forestry, climate change and landscape approaches

  • Experience working on gender and social inclusion in the forestry and natural resources management sectors 
  • Fluency in English and Nepali 
  • Good research, analytical and writing skills in English and Nepali
  • Good knowledge and working skills with Microsoft Office tools

Additional Preference

  • Masters degree in a relevant discipline

Job Description

Specific tasks and duties 

The Program Officer will be a member of the RECOFTC Nepal team. Under the overall supervision of RECOFTC Nepal Managing Director, the Officer will work closely with the senior program officer of the RECOFTC Main Office in Bangkok and relevant RECOFTC team members to support the implementation of “Weaving Leadership for Gender Equality” (WAVES) activities and related tasks as assigned. RECOFTC Nepal has been implementing the WAVES initiative to strengthen the leadership of more than 35 gender leaders from seven Asian countries. WAVES focuses on enhancing the leadership and competencies of female leaders while also engaging male leaders as allies and co-advocates for gender equality. 

The Program Officer’s main duties are: 

Implementation of social inclusion and gender equality activities (50%) 

  • Work with WAVES leaders to prepare plan of actions 
  • Coordinate, support and report on the implementation of the action plans 
  • Support the Managing Director in designing and organizing workshops and meetings 
  • Contribute to conducting research and documentation within the scope of RECOFTC Nepal strategic plan

Communication and networking (10%):

  • Maintain relations with and among WAVES leaders and partners
  • Communicate new initiatives and share reports related to social inclusion and gender equality with WAVES leaders and partners
  • Represent RECOFTC Nepal at meetings 

Support RECOFTC Nepal’s program activities (30%)

  • Support fundraising and program implementation

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting (10%)

  • Provide data, information and reports related to social inclusion, gender equality and WAVES activities to the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) focal point of RECOFTC Nepal
  • Work with the MEL focal point on outcome harvesting
