Job Title: Writer Editor
Fixed Term Contract from May 1, 2021 - July 2022 (Probable Extension)
Reports to: Communication Manager

About Teach For Nepal: 

Teach For Nepal currently has 137 outstanding university graduates as Fellows teaching in public and government schools in seven districts. By our eight year of engagement in the community we have impacted almost 30,000 plus children.

Job Purpose: 

The Writer/Editor is responsible for creating and editing content and concepts which articulates Teach For Nepal’s Vision and Mission. The incumbent creates written content for use in a wide range of media; including online, recruitment and fundraising publications, and communications materials.

Key Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

Extensively advocate the organization’s mission and vision through writing 

  • Main duties will include raising voices that Teach For Nepal through informative and powerful content that advocates for education equity and excellence through storytelling, opinion articles, stories for grant writing, and constantly raise the issues/impacts about students communities, where TFN Fellows are placed
  • Engage in exploring the opportunity to frequently 
  • publish articles in national media 
  • Creative and effective at storytelling and tailoring messages to outreach among different audiences using the organization's communications
  • Work on content distribution cum refurbishing plan to ensure that every piece of content is reaching the right customers in the format best enjoyed by them
  • Ensuring consistent messaging in all the publications

Recruitment, Selection, and Matriculation (20%)

  • Engage in effective messaging of recruitment of new Fellows 
  • Able to craft inspirational, compelling  and clear stories of Fellows/ Alumni/ TFN movement to be published in a variety of mediums (written, video, images, etc.), to inspire, engage, and attract newer audiences
  • Edit and proofread written pieces before publication 
  • Optimize every written content according to SEO

Fundraising and Partnership (20%)

  • Responsible for researching, writing, and producing stories specific to grants writing needs 
  • Create informative and engaging content for newsletters, and outreach materials (not limited to marketing) materials for internal and external stakeholders
  • Relationship builder and networker 
  • Lead stories based proposal generation process including; coordinating with key staff to produce and submit compelling high-quality proposals 

Research about stories (20%)

  • Research marketing trends, audience  engagement in social media content and website materials and continue investing to produce audience-specific written materials. 
  • Research organization-related topics (combining online sources, interviews, and studies) and publish articles
  • Research about well-structured drafts using digital publishing platforms 

Collaboration to achieve vision: 

  • Director of Programs 
  • Associate Director of Fundraising 
  • Evaluation Manager 

Competencies: 

  • Candidates should have strong writing skills that may include the successful development of proposals, grants, sales presentations and PowerPoint decks, impact reports, newsletters, acknowledgement letters, event scripts and articles
  • Candidates must also have capacity in managing projects that require efficient and collaborative work with cross-departmental groups to meet deadlines. Intra-team relationship building skills and strong service orientation
  • Superior proofreading and editing skills, with a strong command of grammar and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to create visual representations into proposals, reports and decks
  • Demonstrates high standards of ethics and integrity
  • Works well under pressure in a demanding, fast paced environment with multiple priorities and urgent deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, excellent critical thinking skills, and independent decision-making
  • Excellent communication, both in English and Nepali language ( oral and written )

Requirements 

  • Masters degree related to Journalism, Literature, Development studies, Equity, Leadership, English language, Philosophy or any relevant area 
  • Minimum 4 years of full-time, professional work experience (related field), preferably in a non-profit setting
  • An understanding of nonprofit communications to multiple donor audiences and a strong working knowledge of fundraising principles are a plus
  • Strong written communication skills (creative and persuasive) with a track record of creating and editing compelling supporter materials and sophisticated business proposals
  • Knowledge of and adherence to writing Style required
  • Intermediate skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Adobe InDesign 

Location: Kathmandu based with few visits in placement communities to deepen the understanding of TFN and its work 

Salary: As per TFN policies
